We had a fun Monday in preschool!

Two quick reminders...

There is NO school this Thursday, 10/30 for Parent Teacher Conferences.

There is NO school this Friday, 10/31 for fall break!

On to our day...

Playdoh is a great way to strengthen the finger, wrist, and hand muscles needed for writing...

We were excited to explore our updated science center, all things from nature and God's creation!!! We explored two at a time, to learn the safe/gentle way to use our new area!

Madelyn jumped right back in with building cup creations, using hand-eye coordination and small motor control!

While Davie tried and tried again to build a little ramp, perfect for his car!

To wrap up free choice we played "pick a card, any card"!  I held 6 cards in my hand (upside down). One friend at a time got the chance to pick 1 card from my hand. On that card was a positional word.  He/she showed the class, I read the word (some of us tried to sound it out first), then gave him/her an instruction using that positional word!  Understanding spatial relationships, following directions in relation to proximity is an early math skill!

Instead of traditional centers...

We got to be real bakers and made our very own cupcakes today!!!

We learned...

We had to follow the directions...

Measuring the correct amounts of water, oil, and eggs is very important if we want our cupcakes to be yummy!

We all gathered around to see how a hand mixer works...we did a great job with listening, making sure to keeps our fingers away from the beaters!

Then we filled the cupcake papers...and we took them down to the kitchen to bake in the oven!

While the cupcakes were baking, the rain set us to the commons to get our bodies moving...

Just about 20 minutes later...Viola...cupcakes fresh from the oven!
We knew that something was missing...ICING!  But, we decided we better wait until the cupcakes cool so the icing doesn't melt!

Then...time to improve small motor control as we stirred food coloring in white icing!  We wanted to have colorful cupcakes! And the final step in making the perfect cupcake (and more small motor control fun)...icing our very own cupcake!

They turned out GREAT...and for all their hard work...we had them for dessert at lunch!!!

While a few friends at a time iced their cupcake, the rest of the class enjoyed free choice in the classroom! Here are just a few of our fun choices...

For Jesus Time we loved hearing the book, "Just In Case You Ever Feel Alone" by Max Lucado. I reminder that God is always with you...no matter what!

That's all for today folks!
