We had a great Tuesday in preschool!
Three quick reminders...
Preschool Night at the Park…Tuesday, May 21 we will have a Preschool Night at the Park from 5:30 - 7:00 at Veteran Tribute Park on Kisker Rd. If you would like to bring a picnic dinner, we have reserved the pavilion (shelter #2). Please note that you will need to stay with your child(ren) for the time that they are in attendance. It will be a fun night!
VBS Registration Is OPEN...It's going to be a ROARin' good week, June 10th-14th from 9am-12pm. Children who are three years old and potty trained by June 1st through current 5th graders are welcome to attend! Yay for playdoh! What a fun way to strengthen the finger, wrist, and hand muscles needed for writing/drawing!
A little bit of teamwork and a whole lot of fun for Carter and Hudson as they created with blocks!
"Hippos in a Hut" visited at the end of morning meeting today! We started with 6 hippos...
Some got a little sleepy and decided to take a nap in their hut! Our job was to figure out how many hippos were sleeping by counting how many hippos stayed out to play. How many are in the hut if 4 are left outside to play??? This is a tough concept to grasp, but we recalled what we had learned when we did this with dinosaurs, so we did a good job today. As the week goes on, we will add more hippos and continue to improve upon this early math skill!
Chapel today was led by one of our 6th grade classes! They told the parable of the lost sheep through a short play. We were reminded that Jesus is our Shepherd, and He is always watching over us and caring for us!
Today we introduced the letter "Y"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then little line down diagonal, big line down diagonal to write a "Y"! Then we came up with words that start with "Y"!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "Y" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "Y", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "Y" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
We improved our cutting skills as we made an earth puzzle.
After he/she cut his/her puzzle into pieces, each friend had to put his/her puzzle back together and glue it onto a piece of paper. Spatial awareness is an early math skill.
We enjoyed a chance to "read to self", exploring different books and "reading" by looking at the pictures to help tell the story. We are learning that letters make words, and words are put together to tell a story!
Mrs. Helmkamp visited today to show/teach us how to use the Code-a-pillar. It is a caterpillar that has different segments of code that you use to program how it moves. The Code-a-pillar not only works on coding and problem solving, it also helps students work on oral and language skills and spatial awareness as they think of the commands they need to relay to the Code-a-pillar and the way they need to get it to the next destination.
We were able to enjoy some fresh air for large motor time (before the rains came during rest time)!
