Our new symphony sign is now proudly displayed for all to see...
We have begun a few preparations for grandparent/special friend day...today we painted paper plates that will be part of the large backdrop for our "photo booth"!
We were also hard at work painting our "Alleluias" that will be "locked" away on Ash Wednesday. They will make a return on Easter Day!!!
Mrs. Mudd had 7 items. We took a minute to talk about each one and "lock" them in our brains! Then while hidden under a towel, Mrs. Mudd took away 2 items! Our friends' job was to recall what was missing! Today was trickier than usual, some of our items were the same, so we also had to remember the color! But, we did AWESOME anyway, didn't miss even once. Recognizing and recalling is an early cognitive skill.
Today we introduced the letter "R" and number "7"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve, little line diagonal to write an "R" and little line across, big line diagonal to write a "7"! Then we came up with words that start with "R" and found "7's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "R" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "R", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "R" and "7" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
The sun was bright and the sky was blue for us to enjoy large motor time on the preschool playground! It's been so long since we've been able to dig in our digging area...we were excited it was completely open again today!
Time for small groups (centers)!
Earlier this week (or last week) each friend was given a heart with his/her name and 4 lines drawn on it. Each friend cut his/her heart on the lines, making 5 "puzzle" pieces. Today, each friend put his/her heart puzzle back together, gluing it on a piece of paper. This activity not only worked our motor development and spatial awareness, it also showed persistence, and the ability to listen to and understand directions.
Uh oh! Our guitars were all messed up. We planned and worked as a group to put them in order from 1 - 20. Then...we found out how many guitars tall are you?
We improved our early literacy skills as we "read" to self!
We improved our writing skills as we wrote in our journals. We could choose from instrument names from our word wall.
A perfect day to improve our balance and running skills!
Corinne took her turn with the favorite book bag! She loved getting to tell us about her favorite book, and showing us her drawing of her favorite part of the book. We ALL enjoyed listening as I read the book to the class! We are going to be very careful if we ever happen to feed tacos to any dragons...
