Welcome to our Wednesday in Mrs. Mudd's class!
A few reminders first...
Preschool and Kindergarten Christmas Service…is Sunday, December 11 at 4:00 pm in Zion’s sanctuary (we will meet in Zion’s fellowship hall, lower level, at 3:45 pm). We will worship together and celebrate the birth of Jesus through songs, pictures, and words spoken by our Preschool and Kindergarten students!
12:00 Dismissal on Thursday, December 22…School will dismiss at 12:00 on this day to begin Christmas Break. There is NO half day care option, please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:00 this day. We will not be eating lunch at preschool, but we will have morning snack.
There is NO school Friday, December 23 - Tuesday, January 3…blessings on your Christmas Holiday! (school resumes on Wednesday, January 4, 2017).
Some friends were excited to see we had some turkey coloring pages and "J" is for Jesus patterning pages in the classroom for free choice time! Not only were these friends improving small motor control, they were also visiting with peers. Learning social skills that will last a lifetime!
We improved scissor cutting skills as we cut Christmas wrapping paper into small pieces! We can then use these small pieces to create with as it gets a bit closer to Christmas!
The "candy construction" building set was a big hit again today. We had a great time expressing creativity and improving fine motor control while building with "candy"! Some friends even used directions to build specific structures in the candy construction booklet!
Kyler and Claire worked together as they pretended to be teacher and student while putting these puzzles together. Dramatic play is a great way to express the world as they see it! Puzzles are awesome for improving spatial awareness.
Brrr...it was chilly this morning...so we made sure to get our bodies moving while outside!
To wrap up morning meeting, some of our friends took turns rolling the dice, recognizing/counting the number of dots, then finding that number on our "positional words" paper. (Quantifying, connecting numerals to their quantities and understanding positional words are early math skills)
Brooke is "behind" the Christmas present!
Davis is "under" the Christmas present!
Keller is "between" the Christmas present and the bookshelf!
Kyler is "in front of" the Christmas present!
SJ is "on" the Christmas present! (the class decided it would be safer for him to put only his hand on the present)
We then had some surprise guests from the north pole...some of Santa's elves. They came to remind us about St. Nick's Nite at Lutheran High School and bring each of us a candy cane! They hope you can make it...here's all the information again...
St. Nick’s Nite at Lutheran High…Come visit Santa on “St. Nick’s Nite” at Lutheran High School this Friday, December 2 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. They are partnering with Fire Truck of Toys and collecting new, unwrapped toys to donate to girls and boys in our own community! Please consider donating a toy and getting your picture taken with Santa!
Today we introduced the letter "C"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then BIG curve to write a "C"! Then we came up with words that start with "C"!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "C" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "C", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "C" with our special handwriting without tears crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
SHHHHH!!!!! One of our centers today was "top secret"...you might see our work under your Christmas tree in a few weeks!!!
With Mrs. Sylvester (Mrs. Dose was out sick today) we made ornaments for our Christmas tree! We strung beads (some even did so in a pattern) and jingle bells on to pipe cleaners! Stringing those tiny beads while holding a pipe cleaner sure can be tricky!
All our Thanksgiving/fall books were gone and we had "new to us" Christmas books to read! We "read to self" remembering the rules of using a book correctly (orientation: read from front to back and left to right...make sure the letters are right side up...turn 1 page at a time, gently!!! Being able to use a book properly is an early literacy skill.)
And...then the wind came...but that didn't stop us...we just ran faster and kicked the ball harder to stay warm!!!
During Jesus Time today Zippy came to visit and noticed our new nativity. So, our friends took some time explaining what each piece of the nativity was to Zippy. Zippy was so excited that he is going to get one for his house! We learned/remembered that Jesus' birth is the most special thing about Christmas. He is our Savior, who takes our sins away!
