Welcome back after a quick day off...we were all confused as to what day it was today!!!
A couple reminders...
Thanksgiving Food Drive…11/7 - 11/16. Zion’s Student Council is collecting Thanksgiving food donations for Concordia Seminary families (here in St. Louis). What they did last year worked great, so they have again assigned specific food items for each grade in order to receive enough items of each kind. The goal is to pack 20 Thanksgiving boxes as well as stock the Seminary Food Bank (food, bathroom supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.) Preschool has been asked to donate canned fruit and canned vegetables. Bring in your donation anytime between 11/7 and 11/16!
Picture Retake Day…is Tuesday, November 15. Your child will receive a retake form if he/she did not get a picture taken at open house in August. If you would like a true retake done, please bring in your original picture package on the day of retakes.

We began our morning with a special check-in..."How Many Turkeys Tall Are You?" Each friend was measured in turkeys (using and understanding non-standard forms of measurement is an early math skill)!
Then each friend found that same number on our graph. Once he/she found the number, he/she practiced writing his/her name on a vertical writing surface!
We were excited to see how many friends were 12 turkeys tall...we could tell just by looking at our graph that 12 had the most people...we didn't even have to count! (Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill).

Many friends loved getting to use his/her watercolors to create colorful Thanksgiving turkeys!
Off we went to explore and climb outside in the cool, fresh air!
Tricky Mouse was still here today! This trip he brought squirrels (uppercase letters) and acorns (lowercase letters) to hide under. He tried to trick us many times, but we were able to name each letter and find him every time!
Today we introduced the letters "H" and "T"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, big line down, little line across for the "H" and big line down, little line across the top for the "T"! Then we came up with words that start with "H" and "T"!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "H" or "T" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "H" or "T", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "H" and "T" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
As we wrap up our Food project, each friend had the chance to tell me what they learned...what they know about food now!
With Mrs. Dose we began the first step in making 3D turkeys out of toilet paper tubes! Today we painted the tubes red and glued on googly eyes and yellow beaks!
Our frogs were hungry and needed help finding their lily pads. Each frog had a number on it, each child had to find the lily pad with that many bugs on it and velcro the frog to it (Connecting numerals to their quantities is an early math skill.) Success for some was getting 1 - 5 correct, while success for others was getting 1 - 10 correct!
We enjoyed sorting unifix cubes by color. (Sorting is an early cognitive skill.)
We improved large motor skills as we play on the preschool playground!
During Jesus Time today Zippy came to visit, but he was very sad. We found out that he was scared from something that he saw on TV. So, we decided to help Zippy out! We helped him remember that any time he feels scared he can tell a grown up and he can say a prayer to Jesus! We learned that Jesus is ALWAYS here to take care of us, just like He was for the shepherd David watching over hundreds of sheep!
