 Thanks for checking out our Monday!

There is NO school this Friday, 3/4 for ELP, Preschool, and Kindergarten. (Grades 1 - 8 will have a half day, 12:00 dismissal)

There in NO school on Monday, 3/14 - Friday, 3/18...Enjoy spring break!

Here we go...

The Estimate Jar was out for check in this morning. Each friend wrote his/her name. Then, he/she also wrote an estimate (good guess) as to how many hershey kisses were in the jar.  Finally, he/she circled his/her estimate! There will always be between 1 and 10, but each day will be a different number! At the end of the day I will read the estimates and we will count the exact number in the jar!

So much thought and teamwork when working with magnatiles...LOVE IT!

Our last few snowflakes...just in time for spring like weather this week!!!

We just can't get enough fishing in, in the morning!!! And...with only 4 fishing poles, we are doing a GREAT job with sharing...

Mrs. Mudd had 7 items. We took a minute to talk about each one and "lock" them in our brains! These were a bit harder today since we had multiple of the same item, so we had to remember which number or color was missing too! Then while hidden under a towel, Mrs. Mudd took away 2 items! Our friends' job was to recall what was missing ! We did AWESOME today, didn't miss even once. Recognizing and recalling is an early cognitive skill.

Today we introduced the letter "K" and number "8"!  

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little line diagonal, little line diagonal to write a "K" and make an "S" and go back home to write an "8"! Then we came up with words that start with "K" and found "8's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "K" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "K", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "K" and "8" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

Yippee!!! We love the sun and clear blue skies!  We enjoyed large motor time on the preschool playground!

Time for small groups (centers)!

St. Patrick's day is just around the corner...so...time for some fun shamrock BINGO!!! Find the match of what Mrs. Dose was holding and cover with jewels. It was hard to find some of the matches, they were quite similar!

With Mrs. Mudd each friend took a turn rolling 2 dice. He/she stated/counted the number of dots, then each friend placed that number of lucky charm cereal pieces on his/her rainbow.  The ability to count and match that number to a quantity is an early math skill.

In our journals, each friend wrote words from our camping word wall!  Not only improving letter recognition, but also his/her writing skills!

We strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles as each friend created "something you could use while camping" out of playdoh!

It was just as sunny as this morning, so we got our wiggles out during large motor round two!

During Jesus Time today we learned the story of Jesus forgiving Zacchaeus! Zacchaeus was not a nice man, he had no friends. But, Jesus saved him anyway because He forgives sinners. Sometimes we do bad things, and that makes God sad. But God never stops loving us. His love for us lasts FOREVER!!!

 Happy Friday from Mrs. Mudd's Class!!!

Today's magnatiles adventures included a few disagreements, but this is how we learn!!! By the end of the day, we figured out how to talk to each other, work together as a team, and share with friends!!!

We enjoyed a little fishing this morning. We were excited again today to get to catch "fish" (rubber bands). We really had to be persistent, patient, and use our hand-eye coordination to "reel" 'em in!

Today each person said aloud his/her estimate, then we counted together the number of kisses in the jar!

We enjoyed listening to Mrs. Bottoms share 2 fun books with us, as our guest reader!

With an icy playground...we headed to the commons to improve our large motor control!

Abram returned the favorite book bag today! He shared with us "Nibbles the Book Monster". We loved hearing from Abram about his favorite part of the book, and seeing his drawings.  We then enjoyed hearing the story as Mrs. Mudd read it to the class (we sure did a lot of laughing during this one)!

This activity is one way to encourage the love of reading.  Also, this activity allows the children (and teacher) to be introduced to new books!  Furthermore, it helps to continue to build home and school connections!

Check out just a few of our free choice Friday activities...

During Jesus Time today I had brought a special surprise for Zippy! I had $10 for him. He came to class, so excited about visitors coming to his house. Every time I tried to tell him about my gift he would interrupt, telling us everything he had to do to get ready. Then...he ran out! Our friends were bummed that he didn't get his gift. We learned that it is so important to slow down and LISTEN. If we don't take the time to listen, we may miss out on super fun things!
