We enjoyed the Maundy Thursday chapel service led by Mr. Debrick...
He reminded us that the best way we can show Jesus that we love him is by serving others. This could be a big gesture, or it could be something as small as opening the door for a friend or lending someone a pencil!
After chapel, we had a special Early Childhood service, closing the tomb! We were supposed to do this on the playground (using the tunnel), but MO weather dictated otherwise!
Each friend got to draw a cross on the "stone" we will roll in front of the tomb!
Gabriella returned the favorite book bag today! She shared with us "The Sweetest Cupcake". We loved hearing from Gabriella about her favorite part of the book, and seeing her drawings. We then enjoyed hearing the story as Mrs. Mudd read it to the class.
This activity is one way to encourage the love of reading. Also, this activity allows the children (and teacher) to be introduced to new books! Furthermore, it helps to continue to build home and school connections!
We enjoyed another day of large motor time in the commons...
Science Time
I blew up a balloon and tore up some paper. Then asked what would happen when I rubbed the balloon on my head and then held it over the paper? We made our predictions...
Then...time to test our predictions...
We saw that the papers "flew" up and stuck to the balloon.
Before I explained why this happened, we did a similar experiment with a plastic spoon, a metal spoon, a piece of wool fabric, and salt and pepper. Rub the fabric on each spoon and what will happen when I hold it over the salt and pepper?
Only the pepper stuck, but not the salt, to the plastic spoon!
And...nothing stuck to the metal spoon!
We learned that there were no magnets, glue, or gum making these things stick together. It was static electricity! Static Electricity is a special kind of electricity. It can be made by rubbing some things together. And...did you know...lightning is a kind of static electricity in the clouds!
Time for small groups (centers)!
We are wrapping up our project on airplanes. So, we found out what each friend knows about airplanes now!
With Mrs. Dose we practiced drawing different shapes (triangle, square, rectangle, circle, oval, and diamond). Success for some was being able to draw the shape without looking at a picture of the shape. Success for others was drawing the shape while looking at a picture of the shape. Recognizing/identifying shapes is an early math skill!
Our airport/airplane will be "closing" today. So, we enjoyed a bit of time role playing, creating the world as we see it, in our dramatic play area.
We improved small motor control while improving letter and number recognition. One half of an egg had an uppercase letter and we found the lowercase match...or one half had a number and we found the match that had that number of dots. We then had to push the 2 halves of the egg together to make a whole egg!
And...Mrs. Rouland was celebrating a birthday today...so we enjoyed balloon fun in the gym before heading to lunch!
