Kindergarten Round Up…has been rescheduled for tonight,Tuesday, 2/28 at 6:00 pm…Parents and Preschoolers are invited to attend for the 2017 - 2018 school year. Come join us in the school commons for an exciting preview of Kindergarten at Zion. We invite you to meet our principal, teachers, and for a brief informational meeting. Grandparent/Special Friend Day...In your child’s folder last week was the detailed information in regards to grandparents/special friends’ day on Thursday, March 9th. (The papers are green) Because this is a special day, there is a LOT of information to be given, so please make sure to read over the sheet carefully and let me know if you have any questions. Then, please fill out the form (page 2) and return it to me by Tuesday, March 7th. I do need EVERY child to return the form, even if your child does not plan to attend or he/she will not have grandparents/special friends attending. The last 2 pages are a schedule of activities for the day! If you could please share with/give this agenda to your child’s special guest(s), that would be great!
11:30 Dismissal on Friday, March 10…there is NO half day care option this day. Please make arrangements to pick up your child at 11:30 on 3/10. We will NOT be eating lunch at school, but we WILL have morning snack.

Our artists were hard at work this morning expressing creativity on a blank "canvas"!
The magnatile creations are getting more elaborate each day! I love seeing so many of them work together and be able to solve problems on their own!
Owen and SJ started work on a "snake" in the classroom...check later in the blog to see just how long it ended up!
It's been awhile, but today these three ladies decided to express the world as they see it while playing at the fire/police station!
And...it took me three pictures to get the whole "snake"!
With grandparent/special friend day right around the corner I took a little time interviewing some friends with questions about his/her grandparents! Then, each friend was given the chance to draw a picture of grandma and grandpa!
Tomorrow the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. In celebration of Ash Wednesday, we will be attending "big kid" chapel and be given the opportunity to have ashes placed on the forehead. So, we had a special visitor this morning, Pastor Rouland. He came to explain a bit about Ash Wednesday and gave us the opportunity to see the ashes up close. This way we know what to expect on Wednesday, and each child can choose whether or not they would like to get the ashes!
We had a chance to climb and explore during our first outside time!
Morning meeting finished up with a chance to improve spatial relationships while quantifying and identifying numbers. A friend would roll the dice, find that number on the paper. I help read the word (some friends are starting to read the words for me!) and have that friend complete that "positional word" somewhere in the classroom!

Science time...we remembered what a tornado is... Tornadoes are really fast wind which swirls around and around in a circle. They cause what is called a "vortex" or a tornado. Then we practiced spinning in circles as fast as we could!!! But, all we did was get dizzy!
Then we made our own tornado in a bottle!!! We swirled it around and around and around until...
we saw a "tornado in a bottle"!
As we continue to explore tornadoes, we watched a short video of storm chasers following some tornadoes in Kansas. We discussed that to be able to do this "job" you have to have special training because it is very dangerous! We remembered that if there is a tornado close to us, we should hear sirens and need to get to a safe place (like a basement, or any room with no windows). We LOVED getting to see real tornadoes in action!
Next we looked at some pictures of different storm chaser vehicles. We then decided what we would need to be storm chasers here in our classroom. Tomorrow we will begin "building" a storm chaser car for our dramatic play area...we are SO excited! We are going to be busy...check out the list of everything we need!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With me, we played Alphabet BINGO! I would say the letter sound, then each child had to find that letter on his/her BINGO board. Success for some was identifying lower case letters while success for others was identifying upper case letters.
Time for some work in the weather center. We loved getting to role play real life situations as we interacted with our friends in a comfortable setting!
With Mrs. Hopkins we improved fine motor skills as we placed beads in a pattern on toothpicks in playdoh. Success for some was finishing a pattern that Mrs. Hopkins started. Success for others was creating and continuing a pattern on his/her own.
We enjoyed a little extra outside time on the big playground before lunch...
During Jesus time today 2 puppets were fighting over a toy. One kept taking it from the other without asking. We remembered that it would make us sad if someone took something from us. It reminded us of the story of Zacchaeus. He stole money from other people. But, Jesus forgave Zacchaeus. Jesus came into the world to save people like Zacchaeus and ALL of us from our sins!
