Happy Friday from preschool!
Our meteorologists were hard at work first thing this morning...
A hurricane is on the way...we took cover to stay safe!
Some friends helped us begin our 7 day forecast for our weather center...
Laina added the title "7 Day Forecast"
Claire makes a forecast for Monday...
Liam predicts for Tuesday...
and Jack determined the Wednesday weather...
We will complete our forecast next week...but so far, looks about right for Missouri...
Monday - sunny and 80
Tuesday - snowy and 1
Wednesday - windy and 60
We headed outside for large motor time...relaxing in the warm sun on top of our "mountain"!
Or...finding great hiding spots for hide and go seek with friends!
We have been checking the local weather daily since we began our weather project, but we added another location: Belize City, Belize. Mrs. Haun (EC Director), Mrs. Lohman (PS teacher), Miss Beach (2nd Grade teacher), and Miss Bevirt (3rd Grade teacher) are in Belize this week delivering Bibles we purchased with chapel offering and the change war. While there, they are visiting 6 different schools, sharing and learning from each other hoping to find a partner school. We found out it is warmer where they are...at 10:00 it was already 81 degrees!!!
Woo Hoo!!! Tricky Mouse is back!!! This week he brought rain clouds with numbers on them!!! He hid under different numbers and we did our best to find him. Success for some was knowing each number. Success for others was knowing some of the numbers. While success for a few was getting help with the numbers from a friend!
Our guest reader today, Katie (Zion 4th grader) read us a Pete the Cat favorite, all about valentines day! We love when the big kids visit our room! We did a great job sitting quietly as she read to us!
Laina returned the favorite book bag today, bringing in "The Jacket" to share with us! We loved hearing from Laina about her favorite part of the book, and seeing her drawings. We then enjoyed hearing the story as Mrs. Mudd read it to the class.
This activity is one way to encourage the love of reading. Also, this activity allows the children (and teacher) to be introduced to new books! Furthermore, it helps to continue to build home and school connections!
With me, we made "Clouds in a Cup". First we filled cups with water, then added shaving cream to the top. We pretended that the water is the air and the shaving cream is a cloud. We remembered what we learned the last few days:
Water can become vapor and rise up in the sky. The water in the sky becomes clouds. When the clouds become really heavy and full of water, rain falls.
How did we make it "rain"? We squirted some food coloring on to each "cloud" and waited for the food coloring to soak through the "cloud" and "rain" into the "sky".
But, not all of our clouds made "rain". This was great, as it gave us the opportunity to discuss that not all clouds make rain. Some clouds do not become heavy enough or full enough to have rain fall!
With Mrs. Dose we matched beginning letter sounds! There were 13 pictures on the carpet (each started with a different letter, A - M). She would hold up a picture, a friend would say the word and find the the picture on the carpet that started with the same letter/letter sound. Recognizing that some words start the same way or matching beginning letters sounds are early literacy skills.
Each child wrote our new weather words in his/her journal!!! Great writing practice and a chance to understand that letters are used to make words.
We improved small motor control and hand-eye coordination as we weaved lacing cards!
The weather was great today for more outside time!!!
During Jesus Time Zippy visited again. Today he had a problem. A friend at school kept being mean to him and he thought since the boy was mean that Jesus wouldn't love him. We reminded Zippy that Jesus loves ALL the children...even when we make poor choices!
