Happy Friday from Mrs. Mudd's class!

Emma, Reese, and Laina decided to make treasure maps to use outside this morning.  Just after finishing these up, they took a "test run" in the classroom!  Treasure was found in our science center...JEWELS!

Hard at work in the bakery...role playing real life situations while planning and working with friends!

Just a little swinging and climbing to improve our large motor control!

And...it wouldn't be outside time without some running!

 To finish up morning meeting we worked on quantifying, identifying numbers, and understanding positional words (early math skills).  One friend would roll the dice and tell the class how many dots they rolled.  He/she would then find that number on the paper.  I would read the word and then...

He/she had to show the class that positional word in relation to our BIG chair!

Mr. Debrick filled in for Mr. Marolf today as our guest reader (Mr. M had his wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday)!  We very much enjoyed reading all about that very hungry caterpillar!

Time for small groups (centers)!

With me, we had some numbered pieces of popcorn...we had to help the pieces find the popcorn box with that same number of popcorn on it.  (Identifying numbers and matching them to their quantities is an early math skill.)  Success for some was completing 1 - 5, while success for others was completing 1 - 10, while still for others it was completing 1 - 15!

This may be the messiest FUN we've had so far!!!  

With Mrs.Dose, we practiced forming/writing the letters U - Z in CHOCOLATE PUDDING!  But first, we let them explore how it felt (and it had just come out of the refrigerator)!  We did remember one important rule...NO eating this pudding!!!

 A little sensory table fun...How many beans or scoops does it take to fill a cup?

Uh oh...our popsicles had broken in to 2 pieces.  The only way to put them back together was to find the two pictures that rhyme!  (The ability to rhyme is an early literacy skill)

More time outside to climb, climb, climb...

Ride, ride, ride...

And...I bet you guessed it...run, run, run!!!

During Jesus Time today Zippy helped us remember that when we are afraid of something we can trust in God to keep us safe.  Whenever we are scared we can know that God is taking care of us!

Welcome to a wonderful Thursday in preschool!

And...our day (again) was filled with all kinds of excitement as we continue engaging in play in our bakery.  Dramatic play is great way to construct the world as he/she sees it, to role play real life situations, and to practice language and social skills!

We need people to work the counter for customers!

We, of course, need bakers!

Josh is busy taking Mrs. Dose "eat-in" order!

Claire decides to join Mrs. Dose for breakfast, made by Emily and served by Josh!

Laina problem solves, trying to figure out how to make a headband she can wear while using her treasure map.  Laina told me that this map goes through a forest, in a cave, that is on our playground!

Pastor Hoehner, from Chapel of the Cross, led our chapel service for us today. He told us a silly story from when he was a little boy.  He went on a vacation and they took their dog.  But, the dog sometimes had to stay in the car and his family would takes turns checking on him. When it was his sister's turn, the puppy was gone, lost!  Everyone was sad at first, but they did find him.  To find him they had to search.  We learned that the Bible tells us a similar story, Jesus is sad when we get lost. When we sin, we get lost from God.  But, Jesus looks for us and he always finds us (in the waters of baptism)!

We took some time to get our wiggles out after chapel, before having our yummy snacks. This class sure does like to RUN!!!

Today we sang a song, teaching us that we always start our letters at the top, not the bottom or middle, but the TOP!  We then split into 3 groups and practiced forming the letters N - T with wood pieces! Some friends chose to make the letter on top of the the letter card while others chose to make the letter next to the letter card.  We not only practiced forming letters, we became familiar with positional words "on" and "next to" (or "beside")!

With me, we used cubes to create patterns (early math skill)!  Success for some was starting and completing patterns on his/her own.  For others, I started a pattern and he/she would complete it or I made a pattern and he/she copied it.

With Mrs.Dose, we painted with fall colors.  But, did we use regular paint brushes...goodness no!  Our art tool of choice today...fresh broccoli!!!  Some chose to use the broccoli like a brush, while others chose to use it more like a stamp.

Sensory table fun!  Each child got to explore the new beans.  Using the scale or figuring out how many scoops it takes to fill a bowl. Being able to compare and measure is an early math skill. 

Exploring and learning about everything in our new bakery.  A great way to practice language and social skills.

And...I told you they sure like to run...maybe in a few years, I can be their cross country coach ;o)

And...who needs snow when you can make rock angels!
