We had a great day in preschool!
Two quick reminders...
There is NO school this Friday, 4/19 and next Monday, 4/22 in celebration of Easter!
STEM Night...The Magic House will be traveling to Zion on Thursday, April 25th for “A Little Bit of STEM”. The STEM activities are designed for your preschooler and one adult guest. You and your child can meet us in the church basement at 6:00 - 6:45. Each time slot is limited to a certain number of children and their guest, so we must attend at our specific time slot ;o)
Here we go...
Creating with "good junk" seems to be a favorite for our friends this year! We were especially excited to see toilet and paper towel tubes added to our "good junk".
We are happy to report that, even though it was close to winter like conditions outside this morning, spring has SPRUNG in the classroom!
We were jumping up and down with excitement when one friend noticed that our caterpillars had arrived!
Yay for sunshine to warm up the morning a bit and dry out our playground, while we enjoyed large motor time outside!
Today we introduced the letter "X"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down diagonal, big line down diagonal to write an "X"! Then we came up with words that start with "X"! (We quickly learned it is hard to find words (that we understand) that start with "X", so we wrote a couple that end in "X" too!)
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "X" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "X", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "X" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Mrs. Mudd, we worked together putting rabbits in order from 1 - 20! Once in order, each friend had to figure out how to measure "how many rabbits tall are you"? Not only were we practicing number recognition and sequence, we used problem solving skills to figure out that we had to lay next to the rabbits to be measured!
We improved small motor control and hand-eye coordination as we weaved strings in and out of lacing cards!
With Mrs. Dose, we began part 1 of a fun art project! Today each friend painted a tree and it's branches. Later this week, we will finish the project with part 2...stayed tuned to see the final product! We learned it is very important to follow directions and complete in the correct sequence!
We improved small motor control as we tore the paper off of plastic straws! Once we get all of the paper off, we will work on strengthening the finger, wrist, and hand muscles as we cut the straws into small pieces (to eventually add to our "good junk" used to create!)
And...check out how many rabbits tall each friend measured today!!!
We had the chance to enjoy the big playground again today! Run, climb, slide, repeat!!!
During Jesus Time today Zippy came to visit...he was sad and happy at the same time. His grandma left to go to Florida for 3 weeks, so he was going to miss her. But, he was also happy because he knew she would be back in 3 weeks and he got to watch her cat while she was away. This reminded us of the story of Jesus leaving his friends and going back to heaven. The disciples were also sad and happy. They were sad that Jesus left, but also happy because he promised that He would always be with them and that He would come back again!
See you again tomorrow!
