A few reminders first...
The Week of the Young Child…is being celebrated by Zion this week, April 8 - April 12! ELP through 2nd grade are invited to join in on the celebration with these special dress up days:
4/10 - Work Together Wednesday…Sports/Athletic Day - Wear your favorite team or workout gear!
4/11 - Artsy Thursday…Mismatch Day - How wacky, tacky will your outfit be???
4/12 - Family Friday...Pajama Day - Wear your comfy pajamas and slippers (remember a change of shoes). You may bring one small stuffed animal!
12:00 Dismissal tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10...for teacher in-service meetings. It is expected that your child be picked up from school at 12:00 on this day, unless you register your child to attend half day care. We will not eat lunch at school this day (unless enrolled for 1/2 day care), but your child will need a morning snack.
There is NO school Friday, 4/19 and Monday, 4/22 in celebration of Easter!
Here we go...
The excitement was tough to contain when our friends saw baby and kitchen items ready to be put in the dramatic play area! Once we all worked hard getting things set up, it was time to enjoy...
Wiggle worm was here to welcome the start of baseball season!!! If a friend picked a number on a baseball, that friend said the number aloud. Then I gave the class an activity to complete that number of times...
Hop 6 times!!!
If a wiggle worm was picked...
WIGGLE, WIGGLE, WIGGLE...and FREEZE! A great way to practice self regulation, having to stop and freeze when having so much fun wiggling!

We loved chapel led by Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Reed! With today being spirit day, we had the chance to show off our spirit with a few cheers. That reminded Mrs. Reed of another time of celebration, when everyone waved palm branches for Jesus when He traveled to their town! She reminded us that we get to celebrate this special day on Sunday, Palm Sunday!
The weather was perfect for a quick trip outside for large motor time!
Today we introduced the letter "W"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, big line up, big line down, big line up to write a "W"! Then we came up with words that start with "W"!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "W" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "W", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "W" with our crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
"We can read!"
We found environmental print that we could "read" and improved our small motor control as we glued each to our paper. Then, each friend "read" his/her environmental print to Mrs. Mudd!
We improved spatial awareness as we completed Easter Puzzles. Each puzzle told a different part of the Easter Story. Success for some was completing the puzzle "on top" of the picture. Success for some was completing the puzzle "next to" the picture. While success for others was completing the puzzle without looking at the picture!
With Mrs. Cooper each friend took turns...picking a bunny, any bunny! On each bunny was a number. Each child showed his/her friends, then said the number. Then Mrs. Cooper gave them an activity to do that number of times (i.e. jump "4" times, do "7" toe touches). The ability to recognize/identify numbers and connect them to their quantities is an early math skill.
We improved our writing skills and letter identification as we wrote "spring" words (from our word wall) in our journals.
We continued our WOYC celebration on this Tasty Tuesday with yummy popsicles!!! Then we ran off all that sugar on the preschool playground!
