We had a great Tuesday in preschool!
A few reminders...
Tomorrow, Wednesday, 2/7 is a half day (school dismisses at 12:00) for teacher in-service. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up at 12:00 this day. We will not be eating lunch at preschool, but we will have morning snack. If you pre-registered your child to attend half day care in the afternoon, he/she will need a cold lunch with a drink, and his/her nap bag (we will send down with him/her) while at half day care!
Breakfast Buddies…is this Thursday, February 8 at 7:00 - 7:45 am! Moms and Dads (or grandparents or special friends if mom and/or dad can’t make it) are invited for a morning with your preschool child(ren) here at Zion. Join us in the church fellowship hall anytime between 7:00 - 7:45, enjoy a light breakfast and time to socialize with others. At 7:45 - 8:00, drop off your child(ren) to his/her classroom. Then, you can also schedule a little extra time to attend chapel with your child(ren) at 8:10!
Valentines to give to friends...Our class will have our valentines parties on Monday, February 12 and Tuesday, February 13. Prior to the parties, each child will be making a valentine bag, at school. Please have your child prepare 20 valentines at home (1 for each child in the class) and bring them on 2/12 or 2/13. (Please see my email sent on 1/19/18 for more details).
On to our day...
While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend (not here yesterday) began his/her day with a special check-in! Each child completed his/her "February My Name" for his/her portfolio. Most friends were asked to try writing his/her name without using his/her nametag! We have come a long way since August! While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :
pencil grip
right or left hand
copied name or wrote from memory
did he/she know the letters in own name
In between taking his/her turn writing his/her name, each friend enjoyed many different activities during free choice this morning...
Woo Hoo!!! Tricky Mouse is back!!! This week he brought cards with lowercase letters on them!!! He hid under different letters and we did our best to find him. Success for some was knowing each letter. Success for others was knowing some of the letters. While success for a few was getting help with the letters from a friend!
And...another fun day of large motor time in the commons...ring around the rosie was quite popular this morning!
Today we introduced the letter "R" and number "7"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve, little line diagonal to write an "R" and little line across, big line diagonal to write a "7"! Then we came up with words that start with "R" and found "7's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "R" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "R", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "R" and "7" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Valentine's day around the corner, we talked as a group about "people we love". Here are just a few that we came up with yesterday and today!
With me we used candy hearts to create patterns. I did my best to only observe as I continue working on 3rd quarter portfolio items! The ability to recognize and create patterns is an early math skill! Success for many was creating a pattern on his/her own. Success for some was me starting the pattern and him/her continuing it.
We remembered that not only can we listen to and sing music, we can also dance to it!!! Time for a little dance party to Jim Gill songs! Getting ready for his concert this Friday night!
We had a third center, but SHHH! It is top secret! Be patient, you just might get to see it next week sometime!
We enjoyed working on basketball skills in the gym...
During Jesus Time today we read the story of the "Lost and Found Son" from the Bible. We learned that Jesus is sad whenever we're bad, But He doesn't stop loving us!
And...Jack took some time as photographer today! Good work Jack!
Thanks for checking out our day!
