A few reminders...
Preschool Night at the Park…Monday, May 22 we will have a Preschool Night at the Park from 5:30 - 7:00 at Legacy Park in Cottleville. If you would like to bring a picnic dinner, we have reserved the picnic pavilion. Please note that we will not be providing any dinner foods, BUT new this year…we will have an ice cream/popsicle truck. Please also note that you will need to stay with your child(ren) for the time that they are in attendance. It will be a fun night!
The last day of school for preschool is Wednesday, May 24.
Zion VBS 2017...Zion’s Vacation Bible school is an opportunity for children to learn about Jesus in an exciting and experiential way. Vacation Bible School includes interactive Bible lessons, craft projects to take home, music and singing, outdoor games, and more! Zion enrolls children from age 3 through 6th grade. VBS occurs on June 19-23 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

On to our day...
While others were enjoying free choice time...each friend found out "How Many INCHES Tall Are You?"
Once measured he/she found the correct number, for how many inches tall he/she measured and wrote his/her name on our chart/graph. The ability to compare and measure, using non-standard forms of measurement, is an early math skill!
We realized that our friends come in all different sizes! And...
Mrs. Mudd saved our graph from the beginning of the year (August 2016) so we could see if we had grown! We were surprised to find out we had all grown anywhere from 1 - 3 inches!!!
I bet you can imagine...we were excited to see Tricky Mouse is back this week! Each day he will bring different uppercase and lowercase letters to hide under. He couldn't fool us though, we knew every letter (and the sound it makes) to be able to find him every time!
We read a book to learn more about what a nurse does....
then headed to chapel where Mrs. Lohman's class taught us a new song...
and Miss Bethany lead our service for us today! She told us a story about David, a boy who loved chocolate chip cookies. His mom let him have one to enjoy, but the rest were going to school the next day! So, David wasn't to have anymore...but he was so tempted. He thought...well, if one person is sick, surely they won't miss just one cookie. As he was sneaking in to get another one, David's mom caught him. We learned that giving into temptation is not a good choice, but his mom forgave him. We don't deserve God's forgiveness, but He gives it to us anyway. He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross to forgive us our sins!
And...remember that lettuce we started growing a couple months ago?!?!?
We tasted it again today! We could say "yes please!" or "no thank you!" We had a few "MMMs" and a couple "yummys" and one or two "it tastes like grass" or "it tastes like dirt"!
It has been three weeks since we "planted" our bulbs, so today each friend took some time observing his/her bulb. He/she then drew a "week 3" picture of his/her bulb in his/her bulb journal! We noticed that some bulbs have grown a really long stem, many even have a bunch of stems growing! It is exciting to see how each one is different, yet the same!
And we have one BUTTERFLY!
So, we took a little time discussing the four stages of a butterfly. Today we concentrated on stage 4, Adult! After some observation, each friend drew stage 4 in his/her lifecycle of a butterfly journal. We are quite excited to see metamorphosis take place from caterpillar to butterfly for the other 4 chrysalis in our classroom!
We each had a turn taking a peak...wondering when the other four will emerge as a butterflies!
As a group we read a book about bones! As I read the words, our friends used the pictures to figure out what the book was going to tell us next! (early literacy skill)
Our first center is TOP SECRET, so no pictures!!! You'll find out what we worked on when it gets a bit closer to a certain holiday that is just around the corner!
We made animal x-rays using playdoh, cookie cutters, and cut up q-tips. A fun way to strengthen finger, wrist, and hand muscles while exploring what an x-ray looks like!
With Mrs. Dose we got to be pharmacists! We used jelly beans for medicine and filled each bottle (circle drawn on paper with a number in the center) with the correct amount of medicine. Identifying numbers and their quantities is an early math skill. Success for some was completing all numbers by his/herself. Success for others was completing some on his/her own, and asking for help when needed!
We enjoyed our large motor time in the gym (as we wondered if someone is building an ark somewhere nearby ;o))
