Happy December from Mrs. Mudd's class!!!
Although it took a bit, we were blessed to have everyone in our class arrive safely to school...and we went on to have a GREAT day!
Our friends were excited to see many new items in the classroom today!
The new "candy construction" building set arrived. We had the best time expressing creativity and improving fine motor control while building with "candy"!
Camdyn and Finley enjoyed dramatic play with our new nativity scene from under our Christmas tree!
Jace had to show me...he found a match! (Even though he doesn't look that excited, he really was!!!)
Many of our friends noticed the Christmas tree in the block center. But, it was not decorated! So, some friends strengthened their finger, wrist, and hand muscles squeezing the glue bottle to make ornaments for the tree!
It was another day made for indoor large motor time!

During morning meeting we noticed that it wasn't November anymore. The calendar and weather tally had changed to December. It was time to look back at our November weather! Looking at our pie graph we decided that November had the most sunny days and the least rainy days! (Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill)
To wrap up morning meeting, some of our friends took turns rolling the dice, recognizing/counting the number of dots, then finding that number on our "positional words" paper. (Quantifying, connecting numerals to their quantities and understanding positional words are early math skills)
Then...Gibson stood "beside" the big wrapped box!
Rory put the dice "on" the box since we decided it would be too dangerous for him to climb on the box!
Finley went "under" the box!
Camdyn stood "in front of" the box!
Jace stood "beside" the box!
We took a little time after snack to review all the the letters we have worked on this year (H, L, I, F, E, T, U, and C). We remembered...Where do you start your letters? AT THE TOP! We then remembered the letter name and the sound it makes. Then finished with any new words we could think of that started with any of these letters.
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Miss Lindsay, we created different ornaments for our tree! We strung beads (and a couple jingle bells), in a pattern, on to pipe cleaners. Not only were we creating for our tree, but we practiced patterning (early math skill) while improving small motor control! For some success was finishing a pattern started for him/her. For others, success was starting a pattern on his/her own!
We had "new to us" books in the classroom all about Christmas and Winter. So, we took a little time to "read to self" improving our literacy skills!
I needed help! I had 9 snowflakes of all different sizes and I need them put back in order from smallest to biggest or biggest to smallest! (Sequencing is an early math skill). Thank goodness each group was able to help me figure it out!
We had some new "word wall" words pop in today! Each child had a chance to write Christmas words in his/her journal! Each "card" had a picture and it's word on it! Not only are the children practicing his/her writing skills, they are learning/recognizing that letters are used to form words.
As we danced with Mrs. Helmkamp's class today we also had to practice being a good listener, following directions, and self regulation!
We loved the Hokey Pokey...
And the Chicken Dance!!!
During Jesus Time today we heard the Christmas Story as I read it from a children's bible. We learned that Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem, riding on a donkey. When they got there, the only room left for them was in a stable. In that stable is where Jesus was born! Angels sang of His birth, "Glory to God above!" We remembered that Jesus is our Savior and our friend. His love for us will never end!
