Welcome to our Monday!!!
Many of us began our morning working with playdoh...it's been awhile and we were so excited that it was out!
Our candy canes were missing their stripes...oh no!!! Each candy cane had a number under it, each child had to roll out "stripes" and add that number of stripes to the candy cane! Not only improving fine motor control and strengthening the finger, wrist, and hand muscles...but also connecting numeral to their quantities!
Our last friend measured "How many gingerbread cookies tall are you?" She then found that number on the graph and wrote her name in the correct column.
The final results are in...11 gingerbread tall had the most with 11 friends. 12 gingerbread tall had the least with 4 friends. Comparing and understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill.
A little time in the puppet theater to role play real life situations in a comfortable setting!

Will chose to take a little time to read the Bible to himself! He may not be reading the words, but he is understanding that letters make up words and those words have meaning!

To wrap up morning meeting we read a book using a gingerbread man, placing him in the correct position on or around the gingerbread house! Understanding spatial relationships is an early math skill!

One last day concentrating on the letter "G" and number "1"!
We remembered start your letter (and number) "at the top" then big curve around, the little line for "G". Then, big line down for 1". Then we came up with words that start with "G".
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "G" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "G", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "G" and "1" with our special handwriting without tears crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
We improved small motor control as we peeled the last few pieces of paper off the straws. Then we strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles as we cut the straws and papers in to small pieces!
These Christmas trees were empty. Our friends sorted ornaments by color or design to decorate each tree. (Sorting is an early cognitive skill)
With Miss Lindsay we worked on "roll and color gingerbreads". Each took a turn rolling dice, counting the number of dots, then finding the gingerbread man with that numeral on it to color. (Quantifying and connecting numerals to their quantities are early math skills)
With me, we built snowmen! The bottom of the snowman had an uppercase letter, the middle had a lowercase letter, and the head (with hat) had a picture on it. Our friends job was to build the snowmen by matching the uppercase letter, lowercase letter, and then finding the picture that started with that letter. Recognizing/Identifying letters and words that begin with that letter sound are early literacy skills.
Something new in the gym today! We got to toss rings over cones!!! It was a bit tricky, but we had a great time!
During Jesus Time today Zippy reminded us that sometimes we have to wait for things. We don't always get things right when we want them. But, we get them in God's time, when he is ready for us to have them. Just like he knew the right time to send baby Jesus to save us from our sins!
