Welcome back to Mrs. Mudd's class on a Monday!!!
Two quick reminders...
There is NO school this Friday, February 12 for teacher professional development.
There is NO school next Monday, February 15 in observation of Presidents’ Day.
On to our day...
We were SO excited to be able to play in our "music room" this morning! We are having the best time exploring different instruments and the sounds they make! Also, remembering...one instrument at a time, and sharing with friends!
We were also all smiles when we saw the easel was out for painting with watercolors again!
As we began creating the music room last week, our friends wanted it to have a name! So, today we began the vote!!! Each friend could choose between "Mudd's Music" or "Song Symphony"....
This raised a question, what is a symphony? So, we googled it and watched a few minutes of a symphony orchestra!
Then...on to voting!
And, so far..."Mudd's Music" is winning, just barely! We'll see what the final outcome is Wednesday once all the votes are in!
Time for a little science...we made an ear "guitar". With 2 plastic solo cups and a bit of string pulled tight between the two, we made "music". We learned that when Mrs. Mudd strummed at the string, the vibration of the string made sound. We also learned that the sound would change depending on how or where the string was "played". This is very similar to how the strings on a guitar work!
Each friend had a chance to listen to our ear "guitar"!
The extremely cold "feels like" temp kept all of Zion indoors this morning! So...off to run the halls and enjoy some dancing songs on the smartboard...
And...the question of the day has finally made a comeback! We sure had fun with this one today. One friend even said she didn't like ice cream ;o)
Time for small groups (centers)!
It was time to find out what we want to learn, what we wonder about music! This will help guide which direction our music project might go...
With Mrs. Dose each friend was given a paper guitar with a number (1 - 20) but no strings! Each friend had to tell Mrs. Dose the number on his/her guitar, then count out that many guitar strings to place on the guitar! The ability to recognize a numeral and connect it to a quantity is an early math skill. Success for some was numbers 1 - 5, for others 1 - 10, and still for others 1 - 20!
We improved our small motor control and hand-eye coordination as we used brand new valentine lacing cards, reminding us how much God's love us!
As a group we discussed instruments to add to our word wall! But, before we get to write them, we used them for a little math, finding each instruments match!
Yes!!! We braved the cold for just a few minutes to get a bit of fresh air as we got our bodies moving up and down the sidewalk!!!
During Jesus Time we learned the story of Jesus feeding the five thousands! They were so hungry, but only had 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. But, Jesus took care of them. There was enough food for everyone and 12 baskets of leftovers!!! We remembered that Jesus cares for us and will always provide for us!
