 Welcome back to a full week of preschool!

A few quick reminders...

There is NO school Friday, March 5. This has always been a scheduled day off for ELP, PS and K. However, with changes due to COVID and no grandparents’ day this year, 3/5 is now a day off for ELP - 8th grade.

On to our day!

Look at our awesome sign that we made for Mudd's Music.  We were quite excited to have it hanging in our music room. Painting is great for improving skills needed for writing/drawing.

Welcome to Mudd's Music...

Dramatic play at Mudd's Music allows children to practice language and social skills in a comfortable setting!

A few friends enjoyed making snowflakes from coffee filters!  Look at all the strengthening of the finger, wrist, and hand muscles needed for writing!

Grayson was SO excited to show me he as been practicing the "S" in his name at home too! 

He did it!

Mrs. Mudd had 7 items.  We took a minute to talk about each one and "lock" them in our brains! Then while hidden under a towel, Mrs. Mudd took away 2 items! Our friends' job was to recall what was missing!  Today was trickier than usual, some of our items were the same, so we also had to remember the color! But, we did AWESOME anyway, didn't miss even once.  Recognizing and recalling is an early cognitive skill.

Each friend took a few minutes to cut out a "heart name puzzle".  First, each friend was given a heart with his/her name and 4 lines drawn on it.  Each friend cut his/her heart on the lines, making 5 "puzzle" pieces. Later this week, each friend will have to then put his/her puzzle back together and glue it to a piece of paper!

Time for a little science! 

We have been learning to make music, you have to make sound.  So, today we asked the question: Will it make a sound when it hits the floor?

First, we predicted if the following items would or would not make a sound: piece of paper, pom pom, rubber band, ruler, paintbrush, and tissue.

Then, we tested each item to see if our predictions were correct!

Finally we compared our predictions vs actuals and learned that we predicted 4 of the 6 items correctly!

Yay for sunshine and a tad warmer weather.  Outside time not only helps us improve our large motor movements, it also improves our ability to take turns and work well with others

Time for small groups (centers)!

Friends worked together to make written signs for Mudd's Music.  We improved letter recognition, number recognition, and writing skills as we made our signs!

With Mrs. Dose we played some alphabet BINGO! Mrs. Dose would make the sound one letter makes, each friend had to find that letter and cover it up.  Success for some was working with uppercase letters.  While success for others was working with lowercase letters.

We improved our large motor control as we "strummed" a guitar while on the balance beam.  Each guitar had a number on it.  When each friend got to a number he/she said the number then strummed an air guitar that number of times before stepping over the guitar!  Number recognition and matching numbers to their quantities is an early math skill.

We improved hand-eye coordination as we weaved in and out of lacing cards...

With warmer temps here and even warmer on the way...we enjoyed (possibly) the last day with some snow on the ground!

During Jesus Time today we learned the story of The Good Samaritan.  Jesus used this story to teach His followers how we should treat others.  We learned to treat others as you would like to be treated.  We then remembered that we aren't always nice and loving to others.  But, Jesus still loves us, he forgives us even when we make poor choices!
