Thanks for checking out our Monday in preschool! 

A few quick reminders...

Valentines to give to friends...Our class will have our valentine parties on Wednesday, February 10 and Thursday, February 11. Prior to the parties, each child will be making a valentine bag, at school.  Please have your child prepare 18 valentines at home (1 for each child in the class) and bring them on 2/9, 2/10, or 2/11. See email from 1/17 with additional information.

There is NO school Friday, February 12 for teacher professional development.

There is NO school Monday, February 15 in observation of Presidents’ Day.

Here we go...

We had some heart templates left over from last week! We jumped right in, improving scissor and writing skills, as we made more hearts for the classroom windows!

The intricate "buildings" made with magnatiles are great for improving creativity, small motor control, and hand-eye coordination!

Happy Birthday Hannah! Thank you for sharing your special day with us!

Wiggle worms arrived with penguins and lowercase letters!  If a wiggle worm was picked...well, you know...let's wiggle!!! (And, it's still hard to stop when Mrs. Mudd says freeze. Good practice in self regulation)

If a penguin was picked...give the letter name and the letter sound (early literacy skills).

Science Time...

Sometimes when the weather is very cold, bodies of water (large and small) will freeze and turn in to ice.  We studied a cup of ice cubes and a block of ice.  Some things our friends noticed:

They both came up to the same spot in the cup

They were both ice.  

One was a lot of ice cubes.

One was one big chunk.

So, we predicted and had to know...which will melt faster and WHY?

Then we had to wait, wait, wait...we checked on each a few times throughout the day.  At first it appeared the block was melting a bit faster.  However, as we checked before and after lunch, the ice cubes seemed to be in the lead.  Ask your child which melted faster by the end of the day!

It was a cold and windy day, but we enjoyed our outside time nonetheless ;o)

 Time for small groups (centers)!

We read the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?".  As we listened we had to remember the story and "lock" it in our brain! Because...

We then retold the story using felt pieces and a felt board.  The ability to recall/retell a familiar story is an early literacy skill.

We remembered that not only can we listen to and sing music, we can also dance to it!!! Time for a little dance party to Jim Gill songs! 

We improved our letter recognition and writing skills as we wrote winter and valentine words in our journals!

And...time to get a bit more fresh air and play the wiggles away!

During Jesus Time Zippy came to visit, he had a big ouchie!!!  I helped clean him up and gave him a band aid to help heal his ouchie.  We then learned of the story of Jesus helping Jairus's daughter by raising her from the dead.  She lived because of the power of Jesus.  Only Jesus has power over death.  Nothing is stronger than Jesus.  Jesus helps us and takes away our sadness too!
