Welcome back to a Monday in Mrs. Mudd's class!

One quick reminder...

There is NO School next week (3/18 - 3/22) for spring break!

Here we go...

 We were excited to improve our hand-eye coordination and building skills with the candy construction...it's been awhile since we created with these!!!

Palace Pets is still open for business...even after these girls may have bought just about the entire store!!!

Hudson and Emmett were hard at work building a house/carrier for the pets and items they picked up at Palace Pets!

 "Dinosaurs in the Den" was introduced at the end of morning meeting today!  We started with 5 dinosaurs...

Some got a little sleepy and decided to take a nap in their den!  Our job was to figure out how many dinosaurs were sleeping by counting how many dinosaurs stayed out to play.  How many are in the den if 3 are left outside to play??? This is a tough concept to grasp, so it was very tricky for us today.  But, as the week goes on, we will continue to improve upon this early math skill!

A little cool and cloudy, but we still enjoyed our outside time. We were able to move our bodies while improving our social skills when interacting with friends!

Today we introduced the letter "V" and number "10"!  

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down diagonal, big line up diagonal to write a "V" and big line down to make the "1", and big curve and keep on going to make a "0"! Smoosh those together and you get "10"! Then we came up with words that start with "V" and found "10's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "V" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "V", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "V" and "10" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)! 

Time for small groups (centers)!

With Mrs. Dose we did some wacky painting!!!  Our friends rolled marbles and plastic eggs with marbles in them to create a painting.  The only catch...his/her hands could only touch the outside of the box and they had to move the box around with a partner. They had to carefully move the box around to move the marbles and eggs across the paper! We LOVED this!!! (and improved hand-eye coordination, large motor control, and working with others while doing it)

Our friends found that the eggs were all broken apart.  So, we improved fine motor control as we put them back together!  But, wait...there's more!  The top half of the eggs had uppercase letters or numbers on them.  The bottom half of the eggs had lowercase letters or dots on them.  We had to find the match (upper to lower and number to dots) and THEN snap them together!  Success for some was finding the matches on his/her own.  Success for others was using teamwork and finding the correct match with a friend!

With Mrs. Mudd, we talked about our Art Show and Movie Night and wondered how our families will know they are invited.  Well, of course, we need invitations!  So, we worked as a group, making an invitation that will be sent home, inviting each family to our art show! (No worries...I also sent an email yesterday, to parents, with detailed information ;o))

Using only tongs/tweezers (great for strengthening finger, wrist, and hand muscles) we sorted the pom poms by color.  Sorting is an early cognitive skill.

We headed to the gym for large motor time!  We really needed to get those wiggles out today, so we did a lot of running and moving with friends!

Emmett sure enjoyed his time as photographer today!

During Jesus Time today we learned about the women who anointed Jesus' head and feet.  The oil that the women had was very special.  She sacrificed her very best, her very special oil, to honor Jesus.  We remembered that Jesus did something very special for us.  He died on the cross for all of our sins.  With the Holy Spirit's help, we can show Jesus love and honor too!
