Thank you for checking out our day in preschool!

First...3 reminders...

Singing this Saturday, 10/10...Our class (together with Mrs. Rouland's PS class) is singing at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 10 at the 5:00 pm service. Please join us for worship and to hear little ones sing praise to Jesus! Please arrive at 4:45 pm and meet in the welcome center (just outside the sanctuary). Your child will sing at the beginning of the service and will then join you for the rest of worship.

Dial 4 Screening...If you live in the Francis Howell School District you received a packet of information explaining Dial-4 screening. This packet not only explains the screening completed by Francis Howell, there are also forms that you will need to fill out and return if you would like your child to receive the screening. Please complete the forms and return to me by Wednesday, October 14. Screening will begin on October 18. As an FYI, some screenings will take place this fall, others will take place in the spring.

There is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 15 (Parent Teacher Conferences) and Friday, October 16 (Fall Break).

Here we go...

While others were enjoying free choice time, our 10 friends that were not here yesterday began his/her day with a special check-in! Each child completed his/her "October My Name" for his/her portfolio. Each friend could choose whether or not he/she wanted to use his/her name tag for guidance! While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :

pencil grip

right or left hand

copied name or wrote from memory

did he/she know the letters in own name

To finish morning meeting, Tricky Mouse made a return! Today he brought with him numbers 1 - 12! He hid below many numbers, but he didn't fool us. We figured out where he was every time by identifying the different numbers between 1 and 12! Identifying/recognizing numbers is an early math skill!

We headed to chapel, but wait a minute, were not in the church! Nope, today we enjoyed hearing God's word in the commons. The church is in the process of being repainted, so we'll be back in the church for chapel next week!

Pastor Reitz led chapel for us today! First he read us a book "The Tan Man". This is a story that Jesus told! A man was traveling and he was attacked. They left nothing and he was hurt. A man from the temple crossed his path, but didn't stop to help. Another man passed and didn't stop to help. Finally a man from another land (the tan man) stopped and helped the traveling man! Jesus tells us that we show our love to God when we do kind things!

Natalia does a great job as messenger, taking our offering to the altar!

Today we introduced the letters "L" and "F"!

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little line across for the "L" and big line down, little line across, little line across for the "F"! Then we came up with words that start with "L" and "F"!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "L" or "F" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "L" or "F", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "L" and "F" with our special handwriting without tears crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

After we practiced the letters L and F we had a bit of sad news. Miss Julie from the library was supposed to visit us today, but she was sick at home. So, instead we were excited to get another free choice time! Miss Julie did reschedule with us for next Tuesday, so hopefully we'll get to meet her then!

Expressing creativity and strengthening the finger, wrist, and hand muscles while cutting and gluing!

Many friends had the best time expressing the world as he/she sees it. Writing letters and delivering them to the friend of his/her choice. Our friends LOVE having the big mailbox and a mailbox for each friend!
