Happy Monday from Mrs. Mudd's class!  We had a great day!

First a few reminders:

Singing this Saturday, 10/10...Our class (together with Mrs. Rouland's PS class) is singing at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 10 at the 5:00 pm service.  Please join us for worship and to hear little ones sing praise to Jesus!  Please arrive at 4:45 pm and meet in the welcome center (just outside the sanctuary).  Your child will sing at the beginning of the service and will then join you for the rest of worship.

Dial 4 Screening...If you live in the Francis Howell School District you received a packet of information explaining Dial-4 screening.  This packet not only explains the screening completed by Francis Howell, there are also forms that you will need to fill out and return if you would like your child to receive the screening.  Please complete the forms and return to me by Wednesday, October 14.  Screening will begin on October 18.  As an FYI, some screenings will take place this fall, others will take place in the spring.

There is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 15 (Parent Teacher Conferences) and Friday, October 16 (Fall Break).

On to our day...

While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend began his/her day with a special check-in!  Each child completed his/her "October My Name" for his/her portfolio.  Each friend could choose whether or not he/she wanted to use his/her name tag for guidance!  While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :

pencil grip

right or left hand

copied name or wrote from memory

did he/she know the letters in own name

We very much enjoyed some chilly outside time.  So, to keep warm we moved, moved, moved!

 Tricky Mouse is back! Today he brought with him numbers 1 - 12!  He hid below many numbers, but he didn't fool us.  We figured out where he was every time by identifying the different numbers between 1 and 12!  Identifying/recognizing numbers is an early math skill! 

Today we introduced the letters "L" and "F"!  

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little line across for the "L" and big line down, little line across, little line across for the "F"! Then we came up with words that start with "L" and "F"!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "L" or "F" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "L" or "F", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "L"  and "F" with our special handwriting without tears crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

We had a our first "field trip" today.  A special visitor, Miss Julie (from the Kisker Road library), brought the library to preschool! Our friends LOVED it as she shared 5 different books with us.  She sure knows how to make reading FUN!!!

Each child then got to vote on his/her favorite book.  Between the 13 kiddos here today, each book was picked at least 1 time!!!

We headed to the gym to see just how fast we could run to get the wiggles out!

During Jesus Time we began learning about Moses!  We learned that as a baby, Moses was placed in a basket by his mother to keep him safe from King Pharoah.  Her plan worked! But, it was really God's plan.  He kept Moses safe.  We remembered that God as a plan for every one of us.  He loves us and is always with us!
