Happy Friday...trunk or treat day...and...Cardinal post season baseball day!!!
As our friends were enjoying free choice, I took some time to finish up seeing what some of our friends know about numbers. In these pictures each friend was able to recognize the number and he/she is trying to count out (quantify) that number of dinosaurs or hippos! Identifying/recognizing numbers and connecting them to their quantity is an early math skill.
As it was drizzling outside this morning we spent some time getting the wiggles out in the commons!
We worked hard to get our bodies to hula hoop!
And to play catch!
To finish morning meeting, Tricky Mouse visited one last time! Today he brought with him numbers 1 - 12! He hid below many numbers, but he didn't fool us. We figured out where he was every time by identifying the different numbers between 1 and 12! Identifying/recognizing numbers is an early math skill!
For our project next week we will be taking a closer look at doctors! So, we read a book about doctors to get us thinking about what a doctor does for the community.
Following along with our visit from Miss Julie, the library lady, our centers focused on reading and writing! First I read the book "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed". As I read I asked each friend to "lock" the story in his/her brain, as we would be retelling it later at a center.
We turned those monkeys in to art! Some friends colored a bed, then told Mrs. Dose how many monkeys he/she wanted jumping on his/her bed. She painted that many of his/her fingers brown to use as the head and body of the monkeys. Those friends that completed part 1 yesterday, added body parts to his/her monkeys and then wrote the number of monkeys jumping on his/her bed! This is tough, following step-by-step instructions (and having to wait) to complete an art project. But, we did a great job!
We loved "reading" to friends. They may not be reading the words, but they are learning how to use a book correctly. Also, learning to use the pictures to help tell the story!
Over the last 2 weeks we have been adding different community helpers to our word wall. Today we practiced writing those different helpers in our journals!
With me we retold the story of those 5 little monkeys jumping on that bed using a flannel board and flannel pieces! The ability to retell a story is an early literacy skill.
Keller spent a little time at home cutting pictures out of magazines to go with our letters from this week, "L" and "F". Today he helped me tape them to the correct letter! If your child wants to look for items at home that start with the letter for the week...we would love to add them. There is usually 1 new letter we will concentrate on each week!
Yay...the sprinkles went away so we could go outside for large motor time!
During Jesus time our friends followed along in an echo poem telling all about baby Moses. Then we sang a different version of BINGO...it was MOSES! Try it at home with your preschooler:
