Thanks for stopping by our Wednesday...

While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend (not here yesterday) began his/her day with a special check-in!  Each child completed his/her "March My Name" for his/her portfolio. We did great! While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :

pencil grip
right or left hand
copied name or wrote from memory

"Dinos in a Den" was introduced at the end of morning meeting today!  We started with 5 dinosaurs...

Some got a little sleepy and decided to take a nap in their den!  Our job was to figure out how many dinosaurs were sleeping by counting how many dinosaurs stayed out to play.  How many are in the den if 4 are left outside to play??? This is a tough concept to grasp, so it was very tricky for us today.  But, as the week goes on, we will continue to improve upon this early math skill!

We then headed over to the band room in the church, where we met and asked questions of expert, Mrs. Thoelke.
She showed/played instruments in each of the 4 instrument families...brass, strings, woodwind, percussion.

Check out a couple short videos from our "trip"..

We even got to try some out!!!

A couple more videos...we LOVED this!!!

After being awesome guests in the band room...time to get those wiggles out!

Today we introduced the letter "A" and number "9"!

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down diagonal, big line down diagonal, little line across to write an "A" and little curve, big line down to write a "9"! Then we came up with words that start with "A" and found "9's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "A" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "A", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "A" and "9" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

Callahan returned the favorite book bag today! Thank you for sharing your favorite book with us, and telling us all about it!

The rain kept us inside...but we had the best time using large motor skills as we moved to dancing songs on the smart board.

During Jesus Time today we remembered the story of Zacchaeus.  We learned that Jesus is the only way to God.  He died on the cross so we could be forgiven.  It is that forgiveness that brings us back to God again.

Have a great night!
