 We had a fun Thursday at preschool...

We jumped right in, building with candy construction, planning and working together!

"If I hold it high, play louder. If I hold it low, play softer!" said Henry

Drawing and coloring on a blank "canvas" (white paper) has become quite popular! I love seeing the creativity, knowing that we can create from "nothing"!

 "Dinos in a Den" was introduced at the end of morning meeting today!  We started with 5 dinosaurs...

Some got a little sleepy and decided to take a nap in their den!  Our job was to figure out how many dinosaurs were sleeping by counting how many dinosaurs stayed out to play.  How many are in the den if 1 is left outside to play??? This is a tough concept to grasp, it was still very tricky for many of us today.

We enjoyed chapel led by Mrs. Oswald's and Mrs. Cooper's half day preschool classes!

We learned about the Trinity, the 3 in 1 (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)...

We even learned a new song teaching us all about it!

Today we introduced the letter "A" and number "9"!  

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down diagonal, big line down diagonal, little line across to write an "A" and little curve, big line down to write a "9"! Then we came up with words that start with "A" and found "9's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "A" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "A", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "A" and "9" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)! 

We enjoyed large motor time on the preschool playground!

BB returned the favorite book bag today! Thank you for sharing your favorite book with us, and telling us all about it!

Time for small groups (centers)!

We learned 2 BIG words today...accelerando (speed up) and decelerando (slow down)!  As Mrs. Mudd sang, we passed a bean bag around the circle.  The faster I sang, the faster we passed the bean bag.  The slower I sang, the slower we passed the bean bag.  If I said, "freeze", well...time to freeze! We had to use our listening skills and large motor control to be successful at this fun activity!

With Mrs. Dose we did some wacky painting!!!  Our friends rolled marbles to create a painting.  The only catch...his/her hands could only touch the outside of the box and they had to move the box around with a partner. They had to carefully move the box around to move the marbles across the paper! We LOVED this!!! (and improved hand-eye coordination, large motor control, and working with others while doing it)

Our friends found that the eggs were all broken apart.  So, we improved fine motor control as we put them back together!  But, wait...there's more!  The top half of the eggs had uppercase letters or numbers on them.  The bottom half of the eggs had lowercase letters or dots on them.  We had to find the match (upper to lower and number to dots) and THEN snap them together!  Success for some was finding the matches on his/her own.  Success for others was using teamwork and finding the correct match with a friend!

Using only tongs/tweezers (great for strengthening finger, wrist, and hand muscles) we sorted the pom poms by color.  Sorting is an early cognitive skill.

Off to get those wiggles out...outside...
