Thank you for checking out our Tuesday!

A couple quick reminders...

Preschool Christmas Service for our class…is Thursday, December 14 at 8:15 am in Zion’s sanctuary. We will worship together and celebrate the birth of Jesus through word and songs sang by our Preschool students! If your child attends school on Thursdays, please drop them off in the classroom as usual, we will walk over to the sanctuary as a class. If your child does NOT attend school on Thursdays, we want you to celebrate with us too! If you can make it for the service, please join us in the classroom between 7:45 - 8:00 am to walk over to the sanctuary with the class.

12:00 Dismissal on Friday, December 22…School will dismiss at 12:00 on this day to begin Christmas Break.  There is NO half day care option, please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:00 this day.  We will not be eating lunch at preschool, but we will have morning snack.

There is NO school Monday, December 25 - Wednesday, January 3…blessings on your Christmas Holiday! (school resumes on Thursday, January 4, 2018).

Here we go...

Two and half weeks ago when we cut the top off a pumpkin we discovered it had germinated and had begun sprouting!  So, the next day we added potting soil to the pumpkin to see what would happen!  Even though the pumpkin itself is beginning to get mushy...look at all the pumpkin plants that we have growing!  It is amazing to me how much it has changed in just one week! As long as it doesn't get stinky, we will keep watching it in the classroom!

A little bit of musical chairs...started and "run" by our friends!  We may need to work on it a bit, everyone got a chair every time ;o)

Expressing creativity as we painted nativity scenes with watercolors!

While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend (not here yesterday) began his/her day with a special check-in!  Each child completed his/her "December My Name" for his/her portfolio.  Each friend could choose whether or not he/she wanted to use his/her name tag for guidance (with some of our older friends, I suggested trying it without his/her name tag, but it was not required)!  While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :

pencil grip

right or left hand

copied name or wrote from memory

did he/she know the letters in own name

 

 We then finished up morning meeting with Wiggle Worm...he is back!!!  Today he brought with him uppercase letters on snowflakes.  If wiggle worm was picked from the bag...everybody WIGGLE, then stop!  Having to stop is tough, but it helps us learn self regulation!

 

   If a letter is picked, that friend told everyone the letter name and the letter sound!

And...nothing like a 25 degree weather shift for a brisk large motor time outside!

 

 

 

Today we introduced the letter "S" and number "2"!  

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then little curve, turn, little curve to write an "S" and big curve, little line at the bottom to write a "2"! Then we came up with words that start with "S" and found "2's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "S" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "S", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "S" and "2" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)! 

Time for small groups (centers)!

 We improved scissor cutting skills as we cut Christmas wrapping paper into small pieces!  We can then use these small pieces to create with as it gets a bit closer to Christmas!

We improved our writing (and reading) skills as we wrote in our journals.  Our friends were excited about the new Christmas words that we added to our word wall last week!

 Then...we did 2 other centers...but, they are TOP SECRET! (You might get to find out about them on Christmas Day?!?!?)

We bundled up and enjoyed more large motor time outside!  We kept moving, moving, moving to stay warm!

 

 

During Jesus Time today we thought about how Mary must have felt when suddenly an angel appeared at her house.  We all agreed she was probably surprised and maybe even a little scared.  Then that angel told her something even more surprising!  She was going to have a baby, God's son!  She knew that her baby was going to be the Savior.  God's plan for saving us was finally going to happen!
