We had a great day in preschool!
A handful of reminders before we move on to our day...
Preschool Christmas Service for our class…is this Thursday, December 14 at 8:15 am in Zion’s sanctuary. We will worship together and celebrate the birth of Jesus through word and songs sang by our Preschool students! If your child attends school on Thursdays, please drop them off in the classroom as usual, we will walk over to the sanctuary as a class. If your child does NOT attend school on Thursdays, we want you to celebrate with us too! If you can make it for the service, please join us in the classroom between 7:45 - 8:00 am to walk over to the sanctuary with the class. What to wear??? You are welcome to have your child wear his/her special Christmas outfit to school for the Christmas service. Then, if you would rather they not be in “fancy” clothes all day, you can send a change of regular school clothes in his/her backpack. Mrs. Dose and I will help the kiddos change after the service. Or, if you prefer, your child can wear his/her regular school clothes as usual.
12:00 Dismissal on Friday, December 22…School will dismiss at 12:00 on this day to begin Christmas Break. There is NO half day care option, please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:00 this day. We will not be eating lunch at preschool, but we will have morning snack.
There is NO school Monday, December 25 - Wednesday, January 3…blessings on your Christmas Holiday! (school resumes on Thursday, January 4, 2018).

Here we go...
Harper improved her number recognition and spatial awareness as she finished up a puzzle!
We love to color, cut, glue, and use stickers!!! A great way to improve small motor control while improving social skills, visiting with friends!
While free choice was in full swing, I had some friends come over for a December interview! I took dictation as I asked many questions about his/her thoughts and ideas about Christmas!
We finished morning meeting with our friend the gingerbread man. One friend at a time came to the front as I read a page of our gingerbread book! Each page gave our gingerbread man a positional word or direction on where he was supposed to run! Each friend's job was to place the gingerbread man in the correct place in relation to the gingerbread house. Understanding spatial relationships and positional words are early math skills.
We ventured outside, all bundled up, to get our wiggles out!
Today we introduced the letter "J" and number "3"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve at the bottom, then little line at the top (give it a hat) to write a "J" and little curve, little curve to write a "3"! Then we came up with words that start with "J" and found "3's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "J" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "J", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "J" and "3" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Mrs. Mudd we had some poor snowmen that had tumbled apart! The bottom had an uppercase letter, the middle a lowercase letter, and the top a picture! Each friend was given the bottom of the snowman. He/she then had to find the matching lowercase letter and the picture that started with that same letter. Not only were we recognizing upper/lowercase letters, we also had to recognize letter sounds and the beginning letter sounds of words. When each was found, he/she built a snowman! Success for some was building the snowman by his/herself. Success for others was working together to help each other build each snowman!
Uh oh! Santa had some beautiful Christmas trees, but they were missing their ornaments! Each friend was given "ornaments" with different colors and designs. His/her job was to sort the ornaments and decorate the tree with ornaments that were the same. He/she could choose to sort by color or design to decorate the tree. Then...repeat using a different color or design!
With Mrs. Dose (Mrs. Cooper wasn't feeling well today) we "rolled a gingerbread"! Each friend took a turn rolling 2 dice. He/she stated or counted the number of dots. Then, every friend at the table found the gingerbread with that number on it and colored it in on his/her paper. Identifying/recognizing numbers and connecting them to their quantity is an early math skill!
Each friend was given the choice to cut wrapping paper at the sensory table or read on the carpet!!! I think we LOVE to cut...it was the most popular (and oh so great for strengthening the finger, wrist, and hand muscles!)
And we built all 26 snowmen...
We were SUPER excited to spend round number two of large motor time on the "big kid" playground!
And, just before lining up, Parker noticed that 2 planes made an "X" in the sky!!!
During Jesus Time we remembered how the shepherds must have felt afraid when an angel first appeared to them. But, God brought good news through that angel, and the shepherds didn't want to be afraid. Sometimes we feel afraid too. But, God has given us a Savior, Jesus, to turn all of our fear into joy!
