We had a wonderful workout Wednesday in preschool!

We have 2 more fun days of Week of the Young child to celebrate...

    • Thankful Thursday (5/5) - Wear your favorite color to school. We will add our leaves to our “thankful tree”.
    • Favorite Book Friday (5/6) - Dress like your favorite storybook character and bring the book to school to share with your friends.
Ben enjoyed reading a book on CD this morning! He is learning the proper way to read a book:  front to back, and left to right.  He is beginning to understand that letters make words, and words make a story. He is also improving listening skills...waiting for the special sound that tells you when to turn the page!

Korrinne and Brooke needed to do a little shopping and working to start their day!

While others were enjoying free choice time...each friend found out "How Many INCHES Tall Are You?"

Once measured he/she found the correct number, for how many inches tall he/she measured and wrote his/her name on our chart/graph.  The ability to compare and measure, using non-standard forms of measurement, is an early math skill!

We realized that our friends come in all different sizes! And...

Mrs. Mudd saved our graph from the beginning of the year (August 2015) so we could see if we had grown!  We were surprised to find out that 13 of us had grown 2 inches and 2 of us had grown 3 inches!!!

"Hippos in a Hut" visited at the end of morning meeting today!  Today we started with 7 hippos...

Some got a little sleepy and decided to take a nap in their hut!  Our job was to figure out how many hippos were sleeping by counting how many hippos stayed out to play.  How many are in the hut if 5 are left outside to play??? This is a tough concept to grasp, but we recalled what we had learned when we did this with dinosaurs, so we did a good job today with this early math skill!

How many are in the hut if 1 is left outside to play??

For our special work Wednesday, Mrs. Sylvester (Mrs. Horton's mom) led us in a 30 minute jazzercise workout!  There were only 2 directions to follow:

1. Watch and follow Mrs. Sylvester
2. HAVE FUN!!!!

We learned to always warm up before you exercise and to cool down when you are finished!

Mrs. Sylvester also told us to tell our moms that "Jazzercise" (on Mid Rivers Mall Drive, by Monkey Joes) is free for ladies in the month of May!!!

Then...even more excitement! Miss Ashley from the Kisker Road library came to read to us today!  Someone may have mentioned to her that it was Workout Wednesday!

First book..."We've All Got Bellybuttons"

Book #2..."You Are a Lion!"

We got to do some fancy yoga moves with this book!

Book #3..."Stretch"

Book #4..."From Head to Toe"

Our friends LOVE books!  Check out the summer reading program...for ALL ages...at your local library!

Then...surprise #3...a familiar friend, Elmo, visited on our smartboard.  He taught us everything he and his friends know about pets.  How to care for them, what they eat, and they need exercise! We even learned what animals make good pets and what animals are better left living in the wild!

As we celebrate the week of the young child with all of the preschool classes, our schedule is a little silly!  So, we will not have our usual small groups this week.  Instead we will have a larger group activity in the classroom!

We improved our small motor control and ability to follow directions as we drew our very own butterflies.   Mrs. Mudd drew a butterfly in multiple steps.  Each friend was given time to draw each step until he/she completed his/her own butterfly.

Then...we realized that most butterflies aren't all white.  So each friend was able to express his/her creativity making his/her butterfly full of color!

We then took extra time for an outside workout!!!

During Jesus Time today one of the disciples, Peter (a puppet), came to visit us.  He told us all about the years he spent with Jesus.  Seeing all the wonderful miracles Jesus performed.  Then, having to see Jesus die on the cross for our sins.  But, he was happy once we he realized that Jesus is always with us, even when we can't see him!  He reminded us that it is our job to be disciples and spread the Good News to everyone we know!
