Some friends created with kinetic sand. They can pack it, pull it, and shape it! It oozes, it moves, and feels like it "melts" in our hands! You can shape anything you want and use it over and over again! Great for fine motor and sensory development!
And...we were still SO EXCITED to have the tent in our block center!
Since so many of our friends voted for camping (even though pets "won"), I had said that we could maybe at least have a tent for reading or resting with our pets the last couple weeks of school!
And...here it is...we loved getting to read/rest with each other or our pets, while relaxing in the tent!
Two friends chose to improve small motor control and express creativity while painting with watercolors on coffee filters!
Aiden and Pierce planned and worked together while creating power rays! Little did they know they were improving social skills, improving hand-eye coordination, and improving small motor control!
Tricky Mouse is making one last appearance before the end of the school year! He brought uppercase letter flowers and lowercase letter bees! Not only did we practice letter identification, we also practiced the sound each letter makes before finding where tricky mouse was hiding! He tried to trick us, but we found him every time!
We enjoyed chapel this morning, led by Mrs. Lail's Kindergarten class! We had to think way back to good Friday, what happened? Jesus died on the cross. But, is that the end of the story? No, three days later He rose from the dead. But, is that the end of the story? No, 40 days later He ascended into heaven to prepare a place for us. Before He ascended into heaven He told the disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. He is always with us to the end of the age!
It has been two weeks since each friend planted a bulb in rocks and water! Today, each friend observed his/her bulb. Then, on a journal page, drew a picture of what he/she saw after 2 weeks of growth!
They sure have changed A LOT since last Thursday! We were very observant that each bulb had grown different amounts. Some were taller, some were shorter, but ALL were growing. We also noticed that each bulb had roots growing down into the rocks and water! Each friend is excited to take his/her bulb home today, to plant them in his/her yard!
We started off small groups (centers) listening to audio of the book, "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons" while following along in the paperback book! If you're not familiar with this book, check it out! It's a super fun way to practice literacy skills along with math skills and singing!
With Mrs. Dose, Pete was visiting their center with a number (from 0 - 10). As each friend was given a number, he/she had to tell Mrs. Dose the number received. Then, they got to place that number of real buttons on Pete's shirt!
We had a chance to "read to self" or "read to a pet" in the tent. We did a little relaxing and practiced "reading" on our own. No, they didn't actually read the words, but practiced using a book correctly (holding correctly, turning pages from left to right, starting at the beginning of the book, and using pictures as clues to tell the story).
Each friend then had the chance to give Pete any number of buttons he/she chose (up to 20)! First he/she wrote a number next to Pete (improving writing skills and number recognition), then had to draw that same number of buttons on Pete's shirt (connecting numerals to their quantities). Finally, each friend could color the rest of Pete however he/she desired!
Since we did not make it outside before chapel this morning, we headed outside for a nice LONG recess! We enjoyed running, climbing, and playing with friends in this gorgeous weather!
