We had a busy Wednesday at preschool!
For those not here yesterday, we began our morning with a special check-in..."How Many Turkeys Tall Are You?" Each friend was measured in turkeys (using and understanding non-standard forms of measurement is an early math skill)!
Then each friend found that same number on our graph. Once he/she found the number, he/she practiced writing his/her name on a vertical writing surface! Almost everyone wrote his/her name on his/her own...just a little help from Mrs. Mudd!
It's been a few weeks, but Tricky Mouse is BACK! This trip he brought scarecrows (uppercase letters) and crows (lowercase letters) to hide under. He tried to trick us many times, but we were able to name each letter and find him every time!
We headed to chapel, led by Mrs. Mudd today! We learned that we can be thankful for all kinds of things...even an empty soda can or an old shoelace. Those once served a purpose, and we can be thankful for that. Remember to be thankful for ALL things, not just the big things!
Time for a little SCIENCE!!!
There was a tub of water in the classroom and then a pumpkin appeared! Did you know a pumpkin is a fruit? First, each child took a turn inspecting/observing the pumpkin...we decided it was pretty heavy!
Then, each child predicted "Will our pumpkin sink or float?"
We decided that more friends think the pumpkin will sink rather than float. We knew this because the line of names for "sink" was longer! But, we double checked by counting how many names we had for each...yep...10 is more than 5! The ability to compare using more, less, and the same is an early math skill!
Everyone was SUPER excited to find out what would happen!

We HAD to check out what a pumpkin looks like inside...
We learned:
The orange, outside of the pumpkin is the skin
The "thing" that sticks out of the top is the stem (where it is attached to the vine while it is growing)
The "goo" on the inside is the pulp
And...there are seeds for planting to grow more pumpkins (or to eat!!!)
We enjoyed a cool fall morning on the preschool playground...
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Mrs. Fahey we improved small motor control and eye-hand coordination as we worked with the pumpkin "guts" and pulled out all the seeds. (Mrs. Mudd plans to bake the seeds for us to try tomorrow!)

With Mrs. Mudd we improved our scissor cutting skills! Each friend had a chance to cut 5 turkey feathers (drawn on a 3 x 5 card) while I observed his/her cutting skills. Then he/she glued those feathers onto his/her turkey body (printed on paper...check them out on Seesaw...eventually!)
We had some magnet fun in the sensory table! We used magnets to find buried treasures. But, it was tricky, not everything could be "picked up" by the magnet!
We wrote our fall words (from our word wall) in our journals. We improved our writing skills and are beginning to understand that strings of letters make up words!
After an action packed morning, we ventured outside to get those bodies moving, and give our brains a little break...
