 Welcome back to preschool!

Two quick reminders...

Thanksgiving Food Drive 2024...Zion's Student Council is organizing the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for Seminarians and their families. Each grade is assigned certain items, preschool is asked to bring in canned fruits (all varieties) & canned beans (baked, kidney, chili, black, chickpea, pork and beans, french cut green beans, etc). Items will be collected thru Wednesday, November 20 (there is a basket outside the classroom to place donations).

There is NO school Monday, 11/25 - Friday, 11/29…enjoy your Thanksgiving break!

Here we go...

We began our morning with a special check-in..."How Many Turkeys Tall Are You?"  Each friend was measured in turkeys (using and understanding non-standard forms of measurement is an early math skill)!

Then each friend found that same number on our graph.  Once he/she found the number, he/she practiced writing his/her name on a vertical writing surface!  Almost everyone wrote his/her name on his/her own...just a little help from Mrs. Mudd!

We decided so far that 12 turkeys has the most with 9 friends, while 13 turkeys has the least with 1 friend. Comparing more, less, and the same are early math skills!

It's been a few weeks, but Tricky Mouse is BACK!  This trip he brought scarecrows (uppercase letters) and crows (lowercase letters) to hide under.  He tried to trick us many times, but we were able to name each letter and find him every time!

Luke noticed there was a package sticking out the back of our mailbox, and we had a letter arrive from another preschool class! We wondered if the package was from Mrs. Dose again. It had to be someone who knew we had a post office in our room...

We are excited to write Mrs. Fish's class again soon...

Thank you (Mrs. Dose) for the special delivery, sent to our classroom from the real post office! This time it is plastic hopscotch rings! We can't wait to try them out tomorrow...

Today we introduced the letters "I" and "U"!  

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little line across, little line across for the "I" and big line down, curve around, and big line up for the "U"! Then we came up with words that start with "I" and "U"!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "I" or "U" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with an "I" or "U", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "I"  and "U" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

A nice November day for us to enjoy large motor time outside again!

As we wrap up our Community Helper project, each friend had the chance to tell me what they learned...what they know about community helpers now!

With Mrs. Lorenz we began the first step in making 3D turkeys out of toilet paper tubes, or we ventured on to step two! Some friends painted the tubes red! Others glued on googly eyes and yellow beaks! We have just one step to go...stay tuned.

It was a great day for a Veggie Tales scarf dance party!!!  An awesome way to improve large motor skills!

We enjoyed sorting unifix cubes by color. (Sorting is an early cognitive skill.)

Bikes were once again the popular choice! Since we only have 6...it's a great way to practice sharing and having to wait for a turn...

During Jesus Time today we heard the story of the Israelites complaining, complaining, and more complaining. Even though they were unhappy and mad at God, He still provided them with food and water, exactly what they needed!
