We had an awesome Thursday in preschool!

We worked on the final piece of the turkeys we've been creating...cutting out our traced hands is HARD!
Improving small motor control while creating on geoboards!
It's been a few weeks, but Tricky Mouse is BACK! This trip he brought scarecrows (uppercase letters) and crows (lowercase letters) to hide under. He tried to trick us many times, but we were able to name each letter and find him every time!
If the weather is icky outside, we get moving in the commons! Some fun was had playing duck duck goose and hopscotch, but we also had to remember to follow directions and take turns!
Time for a little SCIENCE!!!
There was a tub of water in the classroom and then a WHITE pumpkin appeared! Did you know a pumpkin is a fruit? First, each child took a turn inspecting/observing the pumpkin...we decided it was pretty heavy!
Then, each child predicted "Will our pumpkin sink or float?"
We decided that more friends think the pumpkin will sink rather than float. We knew this because the line of names for "sink" was longer! But, we double checked by counting how many names we had for each...yep...13 is more than 7! The ability to compare using more, less, and the same is an early math skill!
Everyone was SUPER excited to find out what would happen!
The pumpkin FLOATS!!!
We HAD to check out what a pumpkin looks like inside...today we wondered if the insides of this pumpkin would also be white, or if they'd be orange like the pumpkins we are used to?
We learned:
The orange/white, outside of the pumpkin is the skin
The "thing" that sticks out of the top is the stem (where it is attached to the vine while it is growing)
The "goo" on the inside is the pulp
And...there are seeds for planting to grow more pumpkins (or to eat!!!)
SURPRISE...the inside fruit and pulp are also white/off-white, not orange!!!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Mrs. Lorenz we improved small motor control and eye-hand coordination as we worked with the pumpkin "guts" and pulled out all the seeds. (Mrs. Mudd plans to bake the seeds for us to try tomorrow!)
We had some magnet fun in the sensory table! We used magnets to find buried treasures. But, it was tricky, not everything could be "picked up" by the magnet!
We wrote our fall words (from our word wall) in our journals. We improved our writing skills and are beginning to understand that strings of letters make up words!
With Mrs. Mudd we improved our scissor cutting skills! Each friend had a chance to cut 5 turkey feathers (drawn on a 3 x 5 card) while I observed his/her cutting skills. Then he/she glued those feathers onto his/her turkey body (printed on paper...check them out on Seesaw...eventually!)
Off to the gym...we may have a few future basketball players on our hands...
During Jesus Time today we heard the story of the Israelites complaining, complaining, and more complaining. Even though they were unhappy and mad at God, He still provided them with food and water, exactly what they needed!
