We had a great Wednesday at preschool!
Many friends are still choosing to paint during free choice time! It is great to see them create on a blank "canvas", not needing a pre-printed sheet to get their creativity flowing!
I believe we may have found an idea for our first project...movies!
Dramatic play enables children to role-play real life situations. Our friends have initiated "movie play" for the fourth day in a row and are engaging in this play for almost all of free choice time (that's a long time for little ones). Since we are showing a lot of interest in movies, we are going to see what else we can find out/learn about movies.
We had two separate movie theaters come alive in the classroom today...
One for a live audience, showing "The Emoji Movie"
The other (still being created below) featured a movie about cars.

The car movie ended up with quite a bit of detail...with a very large seating area!

To finish morning meeting, I brought with me 7 different items from around the classroom! We discussed each item and then "locked" each one in our brain. Then I covered all 7 items with a towel and took 2 items away. I did this several times, removing 2 different items each time. Our job was to recall which items were missing! The ability to recognize and recall is an early cognitive skill.
A cloudy, cool morning didn't stop us from enjoying our large motor time outside!
We ventured out, clipboard in hand, to work on an observational drawing of a tree! First we explored the characteristics of the tree, then each friend drew a picture of what the tree looked like to him/her!
With Mrs. Mudd we improved small motor control, hand-eye coordination, and patterning skills as we created patterns with beads on pipe cleaners. Success for some was copying a pattern that I created. Success for others was finishing a pattern that I started. While success for some was starting his/her own pattern!
With Mrs. Dose we worked more on letter recognition and letter formation! We used our magnet pieces to form the letters A - G, after telling Mrs. Dose which letter she was holding! Letter identification/recognition is an early literacy skill, while proper letter formation is an early writing skill!
This will be our last week of rice in the sensory table, so we took a little time to explore a little more before it is packed away!
Our kitchen dramatic play will also be closing soon! So, our friends had a chance to construct the world as they see it...in the kitchen...
Gym day!!! We enjoyed getting our wiggles out with some friends from lunch bunch!
During Jesus Time today Zippy came to visit, bragging a bit that he was the fastest, he was the best, he won the race all by himself! We helped Zippy realize that he sure was talking about himself a lot! We reminded him that he didn't win that race all by himself, but God helped him to run so fast. In fact, God blesses us so that we can do great things!
Ella returned her mat man yesterday and Jack had a chance to bring his in today! (You can take a picture of your mat man too...then email to me. I will share it with the class and print a copy to include with your child's mat man drawing from home!)
