A few reminders first...
There is NO School this Friday, September 15 for LESA teacher in-service meetings.
Parent Technology Night…Thursday, September 21 at 5:30 pm. Your child is a digital citizen, they are connected online and face a world filled with social media but are they ready? Are you? Plan to attend this PARENT ONLY event where we will learn how to live in a digital world and learn about technology and educational programs at Zion. Please see flyer sent home in your child’s folder for RSVP information.

On to our day...
Many friends enjoyed painting with watercolors this morning. Not only did each friend (who chose) enjoy expressing creativity with paint, they also improved small motor control. Then, we also had a chance to practice waiting our turn. If a friend wanted to paint, he/she put her paints on the table next to the last in line. While he/she was waiting for his/her paints to be next he/she could choose another activity! We had many beautiful creations...check your child's folder tonight to see if they chose to paint this morning!

It kept going and...
GOING...whew...I found the end!!!
To finish morning meeting, I brought with me 7 different items from around the classroom! We discussed each item and then "locked" each one in our brain. Then I covered all 7 items with a towel and took 1 item away. I did this several times, removing a different item each time. Our job was to recall which item was missing! The ability to recognize and recall is an early cognitive skill.
We enjoyed chapel led by Pastor Reitz! He explained to us that sometimes when you do things over and over they become a tradition. He has a bit of a tradition, every year he reads his favorite book "The Tan Man" at his first chapel for the year. He loves this book because the story is related to anything we do: how we care for others and our relationship with God!
Today we sang a song, teaching us that we always start our letters at the top, not the bottom or middle, but the TOP! We then split into 3 groups and practiced forming the letters A - G with wood pieces!
Time for small groups (centers)!
Each friend drew a self portrait! He/she used a picture of him/herself to help remember what he/she looked like! While each friend loved looking at his/her picture and drawing his/her portrait he/she also improved symbolic development, early writing/drawing, fine motor control, and knowledge of self!
Oh boy...time to get MESSY!!! We practiced writing the letters A - G in shaving cream with one finger! This is much easier than trying to manipulate a pencil while writing. It allows our friends to practice forming letters correctly without having to worry about holding a pencil and applying proper pressure.
This will be our last week of rice in the sensory table, so we took a little time to explore a little more before it is packed away!
Each friend colored his/her very own rainbow to take home! This way he/she can always have that rainbow to remind him/her that God keeps his promises!!!
We then enjoyed extra outside time before lunch to get out ALL our wiggles!!!
