A few quick reminders...

Parent Technology Night is this Thursday, September 21 at 5:30 pm.  Your child is a digital citizen, they are connected online and face a world filled with social media but are they ready? Are you? Plan to attend this PARENT ONLY event where we will learn how to live in a digital world and learn about technology and educational programs at Zion. Please see flyer sent home in your child’s folder for RSVP information.

• 5:30 - Adult Happy Hour and Appetizers
• 6:30 - International Digital Citizenship Presentation by Lee Crockett
• 7:30 - Breakout Sessions (Google Apps for Education, Second Steps, or Common Sense Media)

12:00 Dismissal on Wednesday, 9/27 for teacher in-service meetings. It is expected that your child be picked up from school at 12:00 on this day, unless you registered your child to attend half day care. We will not eat lunch at school this day (unless enrolled for 1/2 day care), but your child will need a morning snack.

Here we go...

Many friends practiced forming letters with our magnet wood pieces!  A great way to practice proper letter formation without having to worry about holding/using a pencil!

Then...we were so surprised (at least our friends not here yesterday) to find out that we were getting popcorn for our sensory table!  But even more exciting, it wasn't ALL there yet, we got to watch it pop right before our eyes.  We loved seeing that it started as corn kernels, then the heat from the air popper made it "pop" and change into popcorn!(we got a kick out of the sound it made too) 

After round 8 of making popcorn, we took some predictions on how may times we would have to run the air popper to get the sensory table at least half full.  This is still a work in progress as we should finish filling the table tomorrow!  Stay tuned for the outcome...so far we are at 14!

After closing the kitchen yesterday, we began setting up our movie theater in the classroom!  We made a good start, but have quite a bit more to do!

If you have any empty movie candy (boxes) or large candy bags (that we could fill with paper towels) please send them to school...we would LOVE to use them in our theater concession stand!

Happy 5th Birthday Josh! Thank you for sharing your special day with us!

To wrap up morning meeting we took the first step in making the soon to be movie theater our own.  We used stickers to vote on a name for the theater.

Each friend put 1 sticker by the name of his/her choice!  And the winner is...Mudd's Movies!!!  We knew this because the line was longer and when we counted we knew that 13 was more than 7!  Comparing and measuring, and understanding more, less, and the same are early math skills!

We have been reminded that it is still summer outside! We played hard, but we sure got sweaty!

 

 

Today we sang a song, teaching us that we always start our letters at the top, not the bottom or middle, but the TOP!  We then split into 3 groups and practiced forming the letters H - M with wood pieces!

Time for small groups (centers)!

With Mrs. Mudd we practiced our scissor skills!  Each friend cut a 3x5 card however he/she chose.  When finished cutting he/she glued what he/she cut on to a paper for his/her portfolio! While each friend was cutting I observed the following:

How he/she cut the paper

Can he/she grasp the scissors independently

Holding the scissors with thumbs up or down

Can he/she open/close independently

Scissors and glue are fun to use at home...give it a try...they just need a tad bit of adult supervision!

It was time to get SALTY, writing the letters H - M in salt!!!  Our friends had the best time and probably didn't even realize they were learning the correct way to form letters! (All while using something we put on our popcorn to make it a little more yummy)

We had a chance to wiggle and move (large motor skills) while having a dance party to songs from the movie, Moana! (We sure were excited about these songs ;o))

We read to a friend today!  Even though we may not be reading the words, we are learning the correct way to use a book and learning to use pictures as clues!

(You can take a picture of your mat man too...then email to me. I will share it with the class and print a copy to include with your child's mat man drawing from home!)

During Jesus Time today we remembered the story of Abraham and Sarah being blessed with a baby boy, Isaac.  We learned that we were all babies once too!  When we were babies our moms and dads celebrated the many things we learned while we grew into preschoolers.  Moms and dads are still happy to see us growing and learning.  We then learned that God has been watching each of us since we were babies.  He watches over us because He loves us and cares for us.  He calls each of us His child too!
