Thank you for checking out our Tuesday in preschool!

A couple quick reminders...

12:00 Dismissal tomorrow, Wednesday, 9/27 for teacher in-service meetings. It is expected that your child be picked up from school at 12:00 this Wednesday. We will not eat lunch at school this day, but your child will need a morning snack. If you pre-registered your child to attend half day care in the afternoon, he/she will need a cold lunch with a drink and his/her nap bag (we will send with him/her) while at half day care!

After School Care will close early (at 5:00 pm) on Friday, October 6…this will allow Early Childhood family’s access to the Early Childhood Harvest Party that begins at 5:00 pm. All age groups will be in the Sonshine Building at 4:30 pm for pick up.

On to our day...

We were so excited to see magnatiles out again today...squares and triangles of different sizes with magnets inside each edge!  Not only are we improving knowledge of 2D shapes, we get to create up and or out to learn about 3D shapes!  Understanding and recognizing shapes is an early math skill!

Some friends improved their writing skills as they had to control a pencil while tracing a stencil!

And...Josh thought we probably needed a grand opening for our movie theater...so he posted signs all around the room, informing us of the big event!

 To finish up morning meeting we worked on quantifying, identifying numbers, and understanding positional words.  One friend would roll the dice and tell the class how many dots they rolled.  He/she would then find that number on the paper.  I would read the word and then...

Can you guess what number each friend rolled???

We made it outside for a bit this morning...after our official fire drill from the fire department!  We remembered to cover our ears (while inside) and follow directions to get to our safe spot on the field!

 

 

  We continued singing the song, teaching us that we always start our letters at the top, not the bottom or middle, but the TOP!  We then split into 3 groups and practiced forming the letters N - T with wood pieces!

With Mrs. Mudd we created a group art piece, working together to make the sign for our movie theater concession stand and a theater number.  We remembered to hold the paint brush like a pencil, and move the brush gently back and forth. We thought it was silly that we painted over the blue tape, making the whole paper turquoise and/or orange! They are excited to see me peel the blue tape away after seeing our completed sign from yesterday!

We improved small motor control and hand-eye coordination as we weaved in and out of lacing cards!

Before starting centers we talked about the many things we could see at the movies...the theater itself, seats, candy, bathrooms, the screen, projectors.  We explored, created, took apart, and tried again as we built some of these items out of magnatiles!

With Mrs. Cooper we worked more on letter recognition and letter formation!  We used our magnet pieces to form the letters N - T, after telling Mrs. Cooper which letter she was holding and the sound it makes!  Letter identification/recognition is an early literacy skill, while proper letter formation is an early writing skill!

We were so happy to run and play outside again...but we are ready for some cooler weather!

 

 

 

During Jesus Time today we learned the second part of Jacob and Esau's story.  Jacob was so afraid of Esau that he ran away.  While sleeping with his head on a rock, he had a dream.  God was at the top of a staircase with angels going up and down the staircase!  When Jacob awoke he realized he didn't have to be afraid, he was forgiven!  He was reminded that God is with him wherever he goes.  This is just like us today...God is with you wherever you go!

Emily took on the job as photographer today...she took a few pictures and then chose to play with her friends!
