Zion Lutheran School Open House…Sunday, January 24 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. This is a perfect opportunity for your neighbors and friends to see the Christian education we provide and visit the facilities. Teachers and parent tour guides will be on hand to show visitors and members our wonderful school. All are welcome to come and stroll the halls and stop by the classrooms. Tours will start at the main school building.
Zion Half Day Care Registration for Wednesday, 2/3…Last week, in your child’s folder, you received a registration form for half day care on Wednesday, 2/3/16 . School will dismiss at 12:00 on 2/3 for teacher in-service meetings. It is expected that your child be picked up from school at 12:00 on this day, unless you register your child to attend half day care. If you would like for your child to attend half-day care that afternoon, please fill out and return the registration form by Friday, 1/29.
And...here's our day...
Some friends expressed creativity this morning while painting a wonderful snowman paper!
While others improved hand-eye coordination and shape recognition while using geoboards!
Amelija was getting ready for the snow that is being predicted...here is her snowflake!
During free choice, our last two friends found out if he/she was taller, shorter, or the same height as Fluffy the snowman.
Once measured he/she found the correct word, for how they measured against Fluffy and wrote his/her name on our chart/graph. The ability to compare and measure, using non-standard forms of measurement, is an early math skill!
Now that we have everyone measured, our final standings are as follows:
"Taller" has the most with 11 friends, while "Same" has the least with 3 friends. Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill.
Brrr...feels like 6 with no sun peeking out means a trip to the commons for large motor time!
To finish up morning meeting, I had 7 items from around the classroom. After identifying each item, we locked them in our brains. I covered the items with a towel and removed 2. Our job was to recognize and recall what was missing! There was no fooling us...we figured it out every time.
We enjoyed a book that helped us to understand why there was no school yesterday. We learned that Martin Luther King Jr. had a very important dream. We too can have dreams that will hopefully one day come true!
We then read a new book that I just received last week! This book helped us to remember to use our manners. Using please and thank you when we speak with others!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With me we improved number recognition and counting that same number of objects. I had penguins with numbers on them. Each friend stated the number, then counted out that many snowballs (mini marshmallows) to put in an ice cube tray. Success for some was working with numbers 1 - 9, while success for others was working with numbers 1 - 16!

With Mrs. Dose we improved letter identification and the sound each letter makes. Then we practiced forming the letter correctly on magnet boards!
We strengthened our love for reading as we "read to self" on the carpet!
We improved our balance while also practicing number identification! As, each friend stepped over a number, he/she said the number and then patted his/her head that number of times!
We ventured outside for a bit before lunch! How excited we were to see there was a little bit of snow on the ground to play with!
During Jesus Time we learned of Jesus performing another miracle! Bartimaeus was a blind man, a beggar sitting on the side of the road. As Jesus was traveling near Jericho, he came across Bartimaeus. He asked Jesus for his mercy, but Jesus didn't hear him. So, he kept asking louder and louder. Finally, Jesus called for him and because of his faith, he was healed. Bartimaeus could see again!
