Zion Lutheran School Open House…Sunday, January 24 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. This is a perfect opportunity for your neighbors and friends to see the Christian education we provide and visit the facilities. Teachers and parent tour guides will be on hand to show visitors and members our wonderful school. All are welcome to come and stroll the halls and stop by the classrooms.
Zion Half Day Care Registration for Wednesday, 2/3…Last week, in your child’s folder, you received a registration form for half day care on Wednesday, 2/3/16 . School will dismiss at 12:00 on 2/3 for teacher in-service meetings. It is expected that your child be picked up from school at 12:00 on this day, unless you register your child to attend half day care. If you would like for your child to attend half-day care that afternoon, please fill out and return the registration form by Friday, 1/29.
And...we continued our day with some more snow filled fun, in the classroom!!!
A fun way to improve small motor control while also strengthening the finger, wrist, and hand muscles!
Pierce stopped for a quick pic while his dinosaurs invaded the police/fire station!
Carter expressed his creativity as he made a space ship that is getting ready to go to outer space!
Thomas concentrated as he whipped up a bowl of something...he never did tell me what it was he was making!

To finish up morning meeting, I had 7 items from around the classroom. After identifying each item, we locked them in our brains. I covered the items with a towel and removed 2. Our job was to recognize and recall what was missing! There was no fooling us...we figured it out every time.
We bundled up and headed off to chapel, led today by Miss Limback! She was working on a magic trick during our snow day yesterday! She was hoping we could help her make a blanket. She threw some yarn in the air and said the magic words...but nothing! We helped her say blanket 3 times with our eyes closed tight and a blanket appeared from her bag! Now, are we made by magic? Goodness no, God put each of us together with love! Before we were born God already knew our name! So, remember no matter if you're 6 feet tall or a tiny baby in mommy's tummy, God loves you and knows your name!
Today we introduced the letter "B" and number "6"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve, little curve to write a "B" and big line down, little curve around to write a "6"! Then we came up with words that start with "B" and found "6's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "B" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "B", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "B" and "6" with our special handwriting without tears crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
We created a portrait of a gingerbread person today! This activity helped us to improve small motor control, creativity and imagination, and self awareness!
With a bit of snowfall and the middle of winter, it was time to complete our observational drawings of the tree outside our classroom (we decided to look at it from inside this time ;o))!
We noticed these differences since we drew the tree in the fall:
- no leaves
- a little bit of snow on the tree
- a lot of snow on the ground
We improved hand-eye coordination and patterning skills as we made towers, in a pattern, with cubes! Success for some was copying a pattern already made. Success for others was finishing a pattern already started. While success for some was starting and completing a pattern on his/her own!
We improved number recognition and counting objects while we placed snowballs (marshmallows) in egg cartons! On the bottom of each space on the egg carton was a number. Each friend had to put that number of "snowballs" into that space of the egg carton. Early math skills at work!
Amelija was our first friend to take home and return the favorite book bag! What a great book, remembering the very first Christmas. We loved the reminder of what Christmas is all about. Thank you, Amelija, for sharing this special book with us today!
