Valentines to give to friends...Our class will have our valentine parties on Wednesday, February 12 and Thursday, February 13. Prior to the parties, each child will be making a valentine bag, at school. Please have your child prepare 21 valentines at home (1 for each child in the class) and bring them on 2/12 or 2/13. See email sent on Friday, 1/17 with additional details and tips!

Here we go...

We had a different check-in this morning. Each friend decided how he/she was feeling today (happy, sad, angry, scared, tired, or excited).  Then wrote his/her name in the correct column!

We always try to talk about whatever feeling they used. No matter how we felt at check-in, don't worry, we all had a GREAT day ;o)

Check out some of our choices this morning, while others were learning the new check-in...

We finished up morning meeting today with 8 different crayons...we looked at each one very closely and locked them in our brain. We noticed that all the crayons were different colors! I covered them up with a towel and took 1 or 2 items away.  What was missing??? Recognizing and recalling is an early cognitive ability.

We are becoming pros at large motor time in the commons!

Colton snapped a couple fun pics as our photographer...

We continued our STEAM activity about the wind today...

First we tried moving objects, blowing with only air from our mouths...

Then, we were curious if using a straw to make the wind would help our items go farther...
(FYI...each friend has their own straw and their very own item to blow on ;o))

After our investigations today we decided light, round items were the easiest to blow with the wind (even easier when using the straw).  We now wonder if they will move the same or different if we tried blowing them on the tile floor???  Stay tuned tomorrow to find out!!!

Time for small groups (centers)!

With me, we sorted pom poms.  I did my best to only observe (for third quarter math portfolios)!!! Success for many was being able to sort by color, by size or both with no assistance. Success for others was being able to sort by color or by size, with some guidance!

With Mrs. Fahey we began creating our valentine bags for our class party days.  We used markers and stickers (great for improving fine motor control) to decorate in preparation of Valentines Day!

It was time to put together mini rhyming puzzles.  Find the 2 pictures/words that rhyme and tada...they fit together to make a little puzzle!  Rhyming is an early literacy skill.

We wrote our winter and valentine words in our journals.  A great way to practice writing letters that are not in our names!

Olivia noticed that if you squeeze the playgrounds balls, air/wind comes out!!!

And some more gym fun...

During Jesus Time we learned that in Baptism the pastor pours water on the baby.  This is different than the water mommy and daddy use to give a bath.  That water washes away food, dirt, and germs.  The water of Baptism washes away sins.  In Baptism, you become God's own dear child.  Baptism is so important that even Jesus was baptized!

Have a great night!
