Welcome back to Mrs. Mudd's preschool class...now day 2 in 2020!!!
A couple of reminders first...
There is NO school on Monday, January 20 in observation of Martin Luther King Jr Day.
Zion Lutheran’s School’s 9th Annual Trivia Night…is Friday, February 7th at Pezold Banquet Center (5701 State Highway N, St. Charles, MO 63304). Doors open at 6:15 pm, first question read at 7:00 pm. On to our day...
A handful of friends were excited to see a blank "canvas" to paint with watercolors! We love expressing creativity through painting!
Some friends improved small motor control, problem solving skills, and knowledge of 2D shapes as they used rubberbands on geoboards.
Emmett and Nolan used their problem solving skills to figure out they could use a piece of tubing to hold two short ramps together, making one long ramp for cars to race down!
We noticed we started another new month, January (and even a new year)! It was time to check out the December pie graph! We could tell just by looking that sunny (yellow) had the most days in December, while windy (orange) had the least. We also noticed that December is the only month with 3 different colors, or types of weather! Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill.
We loved that Tricky Mouse came to visit us our first week back after break! Today he brought shapes and colors. But, he couldn't fool us, we knew all the shapes/colors and found him every time! Recognizing/identifying shapes and colors are early math skills.
Evie is 4 1/2! Thank you for sharing your special day with us!
I am so excited for another awesome birthday lantern...our windows are getting prettier by the day!!!
We headed to the church sanctuary for our first chapel of 2020, led by Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Reed. She reminded us to shine just like the star the wisemen followed to find baby Jesus. If we shine like a star, we should show our love for Jesus all the time by showing His love to others!
Today we introduced the letter "D" and number "4"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, big curve to write a "D" and little line down, little line across, and big line down to write a "4"! Then we came up with words that start with "D" and found "4's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "D" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "D", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "D" and "4" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
The snow outside has been gone since Christmas, so we got to make "snow" for our sensory table today. Each friend was given 1 1/2 cups of baking soda and a 1/4 cup of hair conditioner. Then we got MESSY!!! Mixing, squishing, smooshing, and squeezing until the conditioner was all mixed in. Once finished, we dumped it into the sensory table so we can play with "snow" where it is nice and warm, and it won't melt!
We improved small motor control as we weaved laces in and out of lacing cards!
With Mrs. Mudd we continued work on our special art project for National Lutheran Schools week that is coming soon. Each friend improved small motor control as he/she peeled and placed 10 small foil star stickers to his/her paper. Then, each friend painted his her whole paper with watercolor paint. Finally we sprinkled salt on the top. After the paintings dry each friend will shake off the salt and remove his/her stickers to reveal a "Starry Night" masterpiece!
As we returned from Christmas break, everyone was excited to tell all about his/her Christmas! So, we improved our writing and story telling skills as we drew pictures and/or wrote about something special he/she did (or received) over Christmas!
Hooray for outside time with friends on the preschool playground!
