We had a great Tuesday in preschool!

A couple of reminders first...

There is NO school this Monday, January 20 in observation of Martin Luther King Jr Day.

Enrollment for 2020 - 2021 is here… Enrollment for current Zion Lutheran School families began the morning of January 8th online through Sycamore. Please note that enrollment will open to community families new to Zion on Sunday, January 26th at 5:00 pm.  You will want to complete enrollment before January 26 to secure your spot for the upcoming year.  

On to our day...

Emmett and Nolan were busy baking pie this morning! They were just about to put a banana, lemon, cheese pie in the oven! Dramatic play in the kitchen enables children to role-play real life situations.

Many friends enjoyed painting with watercolors or coloring (while very excited to stay in the lines) to get their brains and bodies moving this morning!

Molly expressed her creativity while improving hand-eye coordination to make this awesome swimming pool...

Cooper and AJ also improved hand-eye coordination, ever so gently stacking cups...

While Parker improved his problem solving skills, getting his ramp as tall as possible, so the cars would go faster!

A great puppet show to help our friends act out emotions in a comfortable setting, all while "eating" popcorn and snacks whipped up in our "kitchen"!

To wrap up morning meeting, we each took a turn voting on a name for our snowman (hanging on the closet door).  The two names we voted on were Suzy Q and Sneezy.

After today's vote we decided that Sneezy has the most.  We didn't even have to count (even though we did).  We knew Sneezy had more since the line of stickers was taller!  Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill. 

Let me introduce you to...Sneezy the Snowman!

We bundled up and enjoyed large motor time...in the puddles and mud!!!

Today we introduced the letter "P" and number "5"!  

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve to write a "P" and little line down, little curve, and little line across to write a "5"! Then we came up with words that start with "P" and found "5's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "P" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "P", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "P" and "5" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

Time for small groups (centers)!

With Mrs. Cooper, we discovered our snowmen had lost their buttons!  Each friend took a turn rolling the dice and stated/counted the numbers of dots.  Then, each friend added that number of buttons to his/her snowman!  The ability to quantify and count out that number of items are early math skills!

With Mrs. Mudd, we began part 1 of a winter scene.  Today we expressed creativity using paper, paint, and cookie cutters to make a snowman and some stars.

And...we had a few snowmen that needed help getting back in order from smallest to biggest and biggest to smallest.  So, we gave a lending hand and did just that!  The ability to compare and order a small set of objects by size is an early math skill!

Finally...we improved our sorting skills and strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles.  We used tongs/tweezers to pick up pom pom balls and sort them by color into 3 different containers!

Our school friends are the best!!!

Time to enjoy a bit of running and ball handling skills in the gym...

During Jesus Time today I read the book "Jesus Wakes the Little Girl" retelling the story of Jesus bringing Jairus' daughter back to life after being so sick.  Only a miracle He can perform!  Then, Zippy came, telling us all about going to work with his mom, at the hospital. There was a little girl that with medicines and machines was being healed.  We can be thankful to God for blessing us with doctors and nurses and with medicines and machines that can help us get better.  We will always remember that God is always with us and will never leave us!
