Welcome back to our Monday at preschool!
A couple of reminders first...
There is NO school next Monday, January 20 in observation of Martin Luther King Jr Day.
Enrollment for 2020 - 2021 is here… Enrollment for current Zion Lutheran School families began the morning of January 8th online through Sycamore. Please note that enrollment will open to community families new to Zion on Sunday, January 26th at 5:00 pm. You will want to complete enrollment before January 26 to secure your spot for the upcoming year.
Here we go...
Many friends enjoyed painting with watercolors to get their brains and bodies moving this morning!
A handful of friends chose to create with "good junk"...very excited to see "new to us" items to use for creating!
Grayson said he was SUPER full after eating all this food!
Max strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles while working with rubber bands on geoboards!
AJ and Oliver worked together to find ALL of the jewels shaped like diamonds...
Molly and Rose decided to create "Disney on Ice". They set up the seating area and I helped them clear off the "ice rink". Then, time for the show!
To wrap up morning meeting, we each took a turn voting on a name for our snowman (hanging on the closet door). The two names we began voting on are Suzy Q and Sneezy.
After today's vote we decided that Sneezy has the most. We didn't even have to count. We knew Sneezy had more since the line of stickers was taller! Understanding more, less, and the same is an early math skill. We now have to wait until tomorrow to see what name will have the most, after everyone votes.
We bundled up and enjoyed large motor time...in the snow (and slush)!!!
We even discovered we had a tiny "ice rink" outside! It wasn't "Disney on Ice", but we still had a blast!
Today we introduced the letter "P" and number "5"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve to write a "P" and little line down, little curve, and little line across to write a "5"! Then we came up with words that start with "P" and found "5's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "P" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "P", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "P" and "5" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Mrs. Dose, we discovered our snowmen had lost their buttons! Each friend took a turn rolling the dice and stated/counted the numbers of dots. Then, each friend added that number of buttons to his/her snowman! The ability to quantify and count out that number of items are early math skills!
With Mrs. Mudd, we began part 1 of a winter scene. Today we expressed creativity using paper, paint, and cookie cutters to make a snowman and some stars.
And...we had a few snowmen that needed help getting back in order from smallest to biggest and biggest to smallest. So, we gave a lending hand and did just that! The ability to compare and order a small set of objects by size is an early math skill!
Finally...we improved our sorting skills and strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles. We used tongs/tweezers to pick up pom pom balls and sort them by color into 3 different containers!
We LOVE our school friends!!!
And...we are blessed to have a great, big gym to use when it is cold, snowy, and wet outside! Time to get the wiggles out...
Grayson was pumped to be photographer! Getting a picture in the gym that's not blurry is tough.
During Jesus Time today we learned of a bible story from the New Testament! There was a little girl who was very sick, she had died. Just before she died her dad, Jairus, found Jesus to help her heal. However, when Jesus arrived, He said that she was just sleeping and told her, "child arise". And, as a miracle only Jesus can perform, she came alive again! We learned that Jesus has the power over everything, even death! That is WONDERFUL!!!
Have a great rest of your Monday!
