Tuesday, January 28, 2020

Our Tuesday started a little off with the unexpected weather, but it was perfect for out NLSW theme of "crazy weather" day!

A few quick reminders first...

National Lutheran Schools Week...We are celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week this week, January 27 - 31. Help us celebrate with these special dress days for the rest of the week!
    • Wednesday: PJ Day...Wear pajamas/sweats, may wear slippers (bring change of shoes for outside).
    • Thursday: Olympic Day...Dress as an athlete or in gear from your favorite country. Jeans optional.
    • Friday: Redout/Whiteout Day...Choose to dress in all red or all white from head to toe. Jeans optional. No face paint or hair color.
Breakfast Buddies…is Tuesday, February 4 at 7:00 - 7:45 am!  Moms and Dads (or grandparents or special friends if mom and/or dad can’t make it) are invited for a morning with your preschool child(ren) here at Zion. Join us in the church fellowship hall anytime between 7:00 - 7:45, enjoy a light breakfast and time to socialize with others. At 7:45 - 8:00, drop off your child(ren) to his/her classroom. Then, you can also schedule a little extra time to attend chapel with your child(ren) at 8:10! (If your child does not usually attend on Tuesdays, you are welcome to join us from 7:00-8:45.)

12:00 Dismissal on Wednesday, February 12...for teacher in-service meetings. It is expected that your child be picked up from school at 12:00 on this day, unless you register your child to attend half day care (forms will be sent home this week for those that need to register for half day care. If you already signed up for 2/12 using a previous form, you do NOT need to send in the registration form again). We will not eat lunch at school this day (unless enrolled for 1/2 day care), but your child will need a morning snack.

Here we go...

If we had to be inside, we enjoyed the next best thing...playing in the snow in the sensory table. It was a little dry today, so we were super excited to get to squish and mix in fresh conditioner!

Many friends are still excited to see magnatiles out during free choice time!  A super fun way to improve hand-eye coordination while recognizing 2D and 3D shapes!

We enjoyed plays performed by Zion's 7th grade classes. We sure laughed a lot at these plays! Our 7th graders did a fantastic job preparing and performing all four short plays for us!

Snowy Day

A Christmas Story

The Cat in the Hat

Like I said before, the crazy weather came on the right morning for NLSW. Here we are dressed in our crazy weather ideas...

[Reminder...tomorrow, Wednesday, is PJ Day...Wear pajamas/sweats, may wear slippers (bring change of shoes for outside].

We love rainy weather...

Oops, Rose realized she missed her rainy weather friends...

We love snowy weather...

We love warm, sunny weather...

It was time to see what we remember about positional words!  I had 5 cards, each with a different positional word.  Friends got to "pick a card, any card".  I would read the card aloud and he/she would place his/her body in relation to Livy, our messenger for the day!

Abby was our first friend to take home the "Favorite Book Bag". We sure loved seeing and hearing about her favorite book, "We Are the Groovicorns"!  I can't wait to see the other 19 books that will come in over the next couple of months!

We improved our core muscle strength and ability to follow directions as we used scooters in the commons...

Today we introduced the letter "B" and number "6"!

We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down, little curve, little curve to write a "B" and big line down, little curve around to write a "6"! Then we came up with words that start with "B" and found "6's" around the room!

Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "B" we can add it to our big letter.  Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "B", bring it in and he/she can tape it to our big letter!

Then we practiced writing "B" and "6" with crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!

Time for small groups (centers)!

With me, we sorted pom poms.  I did my best to only observe for third quarter math portfolios!!! Success for many was being able to sort by color, by size or both with no assistance. Success for others was being able to sort by color or by size, with some guidance!

With Mrs. Cooper we expressed creativity and improved small motor control as we created our bags for Valentines day!

We improved rhyming skills as we made tiny puzzles by matching up 2 words/pictures that rhyme!

We improved letter identification and writing skills as we wrote "winter" words from our word wall in our journals!

We did it...we found all 30 rhyming puzzles!!!

Off to the gym to move, move, move and a little duck, duck, goose!

During Jesus Time today, Zippy visited on his way to the grocery store!   He was excited to buy some of his favorite foods.  We reminded him that those foods don't just appear at the store.  Instead all food begins as something that God provides!  God always gives us everything we need and sometimes what we want!

Thanks for checking out our day!
