We had a wonderful Wednesday in preschool!

On to our day...
We tried out our new "listening center". We learned to listen for the special sound that tells us when to turn the page! During free choice, for the rest of the school year, the listening center will be open for one child at a time to "read" a book on CD using headphones! A great opportunity to listen to a book, while following along with the written text! Also fantastic for self regulation and learning to following directions. Having to wait and listen for the special sound to know when it's time to turn the page is hard work! But, what a fun way to start a life long love of reading! If a friend wants a turn at the listening center, he/she places his/her nametag on the table so we know who is next!

Brooke decided, rather than building with interlox, she would improve her sorting skills!
A whole group of friends planned and worked together while improving small motor control!
And...all done!!!
Riley expressed creativity as he made a "launcher"!
To wrap up morning meeting today...wiggle worm made a return. Wiggle worm brought baseballs with numbers on them! If a friend grabbed a wiggle worm out of the bag...we all got to wiggle, wiggle, wiggle and FREEZE (it's hard to stop and freeze when having so much fun wiggling, it takes a lot of self control!)
If a friend grabbed a number out of the bag, he/she showed the group the number and said it aloud. Then, I gave the group an "activity" to complete that number of times...
We enjoyed chapel led by Mrs. Bernhardt, Zion 1st grade teacher. She reminded us that at Easter time there is a lot of new life growing everywhere. She brought a special flower, and Easter lily. The lily looks a bit like a trumpet and they shout out "Jesus is RISEN!" So, we can then trumpet back, "He is risen indeed! Alleluia!!!" We all have some good news to tell, don't keep it a secret! Be sure to tell everyone we have new life with Jesus in heaven!
It has been one week since we "planted" our bulbs, so today each friend took some time observing his/her bulb. He/she then drew a "week 1" picture of his/her bulb in his/her bulb journal! We noticed that some bulbs have grown a long stem and long roots, while some are just barely sprouting! We learned that all things in God's creation are unique! They may be the same kind of bulb, but each is different!
They're here! They're here! We were jumping up and down with excitement when one friend noticed that our caterpillars had arrived!
So, we took a little time discussing the four stages of a butterfly. Stage 1 is the egg, which we only got to see in a picture. Stage 2 is the caterpillar. We passed the caterpillars around to get a good look. After some observation, each friend drew stage 1 and stage 2 in his/her lifecycle of a butterfly journal. We are quite excited to see metamorphosis take place from caterpillar to butterfly in our classroom!
Time for small groups (centers)!
Now that we know what "we know" about doctors and nurses, it was time to find out what questions we have about doctors and nurses. Each friend told me what they want to learn about doctors and/or nurses and I took dictation on our web. This will help guide the direction of our project!
With Mrs. Dose, we started part 2 of our tree art! We strengthened our finger, wrist, and hand muscles as we squeezed "globs" of glue on the branches of our trees. Then, we improved small motor control as we placed pieces of popcorn on each "glob" of glue. Our popcorn cherry blossom trees are turning out GREAT!
We improved small motor control as we tore the paper off of plastic straws! Once we get all of the paper off, we will work on strengthening the finger, wrist, and hand muscles as we cut the straws into small pieces (to eventually add to our "good junk" used to create!)
Whew...we could feel the heat today as we headed to two different playgrounds for large motor time outside! It was GREAT!
