We had a great Thursday in preschool!
While others were enjoying free choice time, each friend began his/her day with a special check-in! Each child completed his/her "February My Name" for his/her portfolio. Each friend was asked to try writing his/her name without using his/her nametag! ALL were able to write his/her name without the help of the nametag today (a few needed some hints, but no one needed to look at the letters)! We have come a long way since August! While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :
pencil grip
right or left hand
copied name or wrote from memory
did he/she know the letters in own name
And...our symphony orchestra construction is well under way...we now have instruments! We decided these things today after day 2 with instruments:
1. Our sign up sheet for taking turns as conductor worked GREAT!
2. We need an open/closed sign
3. We need to decide on a name for our symphony
4. We need to start making tickets to sell, in case friends want to sit and enjoy the symphony
It was a bit chilly this morning, but nevertheless, we enjoyed large motor time on the playground!
Happy 4 1/2 Birthday Jonah! Thank you for sharing your special day with us!
It was time to see what we remember about positional words! I had 6 cards, each with a different positional word. Friends got to "pick a card, any card". I would read the card aloud and he/she would place his/her body somewhere in the classroom using that word!
We then read "Just One More Swim" to lead us into one of our centers, discovering what keeps animals warm!
With Mrs. Mudd we each put a bare hand in a bowl of ice water...we counted to 10 to see if we could keep it in there that long...brrr it was cold!
Then I added a bag full of animal fat (crisco), with a plastic bag inside. Each friend placed his/her hand in the plastic bag, and held again for 10 seconds. They discovered that the "fat" protected us from the cold water. Just like the fat on an animal protects them from cold weather/water.
We had the opportunity to "read to self"!
With Mrs. Dose, we worked on a 3D project...making snowmen with marshmallow, glue, sequins, and toothpicks!
Ben returned the favorite book bag today! He shared with us "Happy Halloween Curious George". Our friends loved hearing and seeing about all the special things Curious George does for Halloween! Thank you for sharing this book with us Ben.
And...we enjoyed a little more of that fresh air before lunch time!
During Jesus Time today we learned that because Jesus loves us, He changes our hearts to make us into loving people. He continues to forgive us when we do wrong. And He helps us to grow to become kinder and more helpful too!
