Happy Monday from Mrs. Mudd's preschool class!

A couple reminders...

Box Tops Contest…It’s that time again!  Zion will have a classroom contest for box tops! The classroom who brings in the most box tops between now and 2/19 will win a special treat!  I will have a bag in our classroom for you to turn them in! Questions? No school...there is no school this Friday, February 12 (winter break) and Monday, February 15 (Presidents' Day)!

And...on to our day...

While others enjoyed free choice time, each friend found out "How Many HEARTS Tall Are You?"

Once measured he/she found the correct number, for how many hearts tall he/she measured and wrote his/her name on our chart/graph.  The ability to compare and measure, using non-standard forms of measurement, is an early math skill!

 After Day 1 of measuring, we decided that 11 and 12 hearts are equal (or the same). Both have 6 friends each!  Then 13 has the least with 1 friend!  Understanding more, less, and the same in an early math skill!

We chose to protect ourselves from the CRAZY wind this morning and headed to the commons for large motor time!

In case you were waiting...now is the time...pigs were "flying"!!!

While some had pigs "flying"...others practiced throwing and catching with Mrs. Burnham!

As we began creating the symphony last week, our friends wanted a name for our orchestra!  So, today we began the vote!!!  Each friend could choose between "Muddy Music" or "Preschool Performers"....

And, so far..."Muddy Music" is winning by a landslide!  We'll see what the final outcome is tomorrow once all the votes are in!

And...time to PARTY!!!  A big thank you to our parent volunteers, Mrs. Marshall, Mr. Galloway, and Mr. Brown, for all of their help today!

With Mrs. Burnham we used our small motor control as we made designs and wrote on "magic" hearts!

With Mr. Galloway we played a fun game of Valentine BINGO!  He/she got to use rolos as markers when he/she found the match on his/her game card (The ability to match is an early math skill). Our friends are very excited that a few rolos are coming home in his/her goodie bag!

With Mrs. Marshall we played a fun game of Valentine TWISTER!  It sure was tricky to twist our bodies around and not fall over!

With Mr. Brown we tested our throwing skills as we played valentine heart ring toss!

Then, to wrap up our fun party, we read two different valentine books...

Wow...then we had a special visitor today...Pastor Rouland!  He came to talk to us about Ash Wednesday (2/10).  He showed us the ashes that will be used at chapel on Wednesday.  He explained what they are made of, and why we have ashes placed on our forehead in the shape of a cross.  

He then let us test the ashes out on one hand, so we know what to expect at Chapel in a couple of days.

And...a little time in the gym to get those wiggles out and just RUN around and be LOUD!

During Jesus Time today we learned of the Lost and Found Son.  He chose to leave his family, but he foolishly spent all of his money from his father.  He had no place to live and no food.  He chose to return to his family.  Instead of his father being angry with his poor choices, he welcomed him home and forgave him!  We realized that sometimes it's easy to be selfish, but we need to remember to show God's love and always think of others when making choices!
