Happy LEAP day from Preschool!
First...2 reminders...
Grandparents’ Day...is quickly approaching! Sent home last week in your child’s folder is the detailed information in regards to grandparents/special friends’ day on March 10th. (The papers are blue) Because this is a special day, there is a LOT of information to be given, so please make sure to read over the sheet carefully and let me know if you have any questions. Then, please fill out the form (page 2) and return it to me by Tuesday, March 8th. I do need EVERY child to return the form, even if your child does not plan to attend or he/she will not have grandparents/special friends attending. The last 2 pages are a schedule of activities for the day! If you could please share with/give this agenda to your child’s special guest(s), that would be great!
Easter Egg Hunt...Zion’s Fifth Annual Easter Egg Hunt is set for Saturday, March 19 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm for ages birth to second grade. In addition to the hunt, there will be a petting zoo, games, bounce house, face painting, and much more! In an effort to fill the eggs, we need your help to donate non-chocolate candies to place inside the plastic eggs. Donations should be dropped off in the church office before March 7th (you can also bring to the classroom), giving the team enough time to fill all the eggs. If you would like to help out for the egg hunt, please contact Carla Trampe at carlatrampe@sbcglobal.net. The schedule for each hunt is as follow:
- 10:15 - Birth to Age 2
- 10:45 - Preschool 3 and 4
- 11:15 - Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade
- Older siblings are welcome to participate in other activities!
And...on to our day...
I began spring assessments this morning! While I was working one on one with a few friends...others enjoyed free choice time!
Many were excited to find that painting at the easel was a blank, white canvas! All the more room to create whatever he/she chose!
Brooke found a comfy spot to improve her sorting skills!
These ladies noticed we were almost out of tickets for the symphony...and problem solved...make some more!
Jeremiah noticed we had a new "Xplor" magazine one the bookshelf, so he took a little time to read it over!
Then, we took a "field trip" to visit an expert on music. We headed to the band room (in the church) to meet Mrs. Thoelke. Mrs. Thoelke is the band teacher here at Zion (5th - 8th grade)!
She taught us a few things about the woodwind family. Then, she played an instrument from the woodwind family, a saxophone!
She taught us a few things about the percussion family. Then, she played a percussion instrument, the temple blocks!
She taught us a few things about the brass family. Then, she played an instrument from the brass family, a baritone! We learned that the smaller an instrument, the higher the sound. The bigger an instrument, the lower the sound.
Finally...we got to be real musicians...taking turns playing instruments!
The bass drum...makes a low sound...
The maraccas...we sure are curious what is in there that makes that sound!
The temple blocks...we heard first hand, the smaller the box the higher the sound!
Tricky Mouse is BACK!!! He brought with him flowers and bees with uppercase and lowercase letters on them! He couldn't fool us, we knew those letters and found him every time!
Today we introduced the letter "V" and number "10"!
We remembered start your letter "at the top" then big line down diagonal, big line up diagonal to write a "V" and big line down to make the "1", and big curve and keep on going to make a "0"! Smoosh those together and you get "10"! Then we came up with words that start with "V" and found "10's" around the room!
Anytime one of our friends thinks of a word that starts with "V" we can add it to our big letter. Or, if at home, your child sees a small picture or item that starts with a "V", bring it in and he/she can glue it to our big letter!
Then we practiced writing "V" and "10" with our special handwriting without tears crayons (nice and short to reinforce proper grip)!
We then listened to different high and low tunes, and made predictions about high and low sounds using the smartboard!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With Mrs. Mudd each friend took a turn rolling 2 dice. He/she stated/counted the number of dots, then each friend placed that number of lucky charm cereal pieces on his/her rainbow. The ability to count and match that number to a quantity is an early math skill.
With Mrs. Burnham we strengthened the finger, wrist, and hand muscles squeezing dots of glue on our blue paper. We then improved small motor control as we glued each end of 6 strips of paper to our blue rectangle. As we glued each end, we also practiced our counting skills, using the "rule of 10". Hold the paper while you count to 10! And...voila...we created 3D rainbows!!!
In our journals, each friend wrote or drew a picture about what he/she learned (or his/her favorite part) during our "field trip" to the school band room!
What a wonderful day to be outside...we cleaned up from centers very quickly, so we could enjoy a little extra outside time today!
During Jesus Time today we learned the story of Jesus forgiving Zacchaeus! Zacchaeus was not a nice man, he had no friends. But, Jesus saved him anyway because He forgives sinners. Sometimes we do bad things, and that makes God sad. But God never stops loving us. His love for us lasts FOREVER!!!
