Happy Friday from Mrs. Mudd's class!

We jumped right into our morning with creating in many different ways...

candy construction...

drawing pictures of the nativity...

good junk...

and watercolor painting...

Then, a little earlier than usual, our guest reader arrived! Celia from one of Zion's fourth grade classes shared a super silly book with us. We LOVE when the big kids read to us, and can't wait to come back one day to read to my class when they are older!

We finished morning meeting with our friend the gingerbread man. One friend at a time came to the front as I read a page of our gingerbread book! Each page gave our gingerbread man a positional word or direction on where he was supposed to run! Each friend's job was to place the gingerbread man in the correct place in relation to the gingerbread house. Understanding spatial relationships and positional words are early math skills.

Time to get the wiggles out...

Then...our last practice for our Advent service this Sunday! We joined 3 other preschool classes and are looking pretty good, ready to share the good news with all of you!

Finally, we spent some well earned time in the gym! All that practicing is hard work!

During Jesus Time today we tried to imagine how the shepherds must have felt on the night the angel came to them. How much excitement was felt, that they rushed to see the new baby Jesus! So excited that they just couldn't keep the news to themselves. They spread the news to everyone they knew! Who are you excited to tell that Jesus is our Savior, and He loves us all?!?!?

Whew...we had a whirlwind of a Thursday in preschool!!!

We began our morning with a special check-in for those not here yesterday..."How Many Gingerbread Cookies Tall Are You?" Each friend was measured in gingerbread cookies (using and understanding non-standard forms of measurement is an early math skill)!

Then each friend found that same number on our graph. Once he/she found the number, he/she practiced writing his/her name on a vertical writing surface!

Happy 5th Birthday AJ! Thank you for sharing your special day with us!

Another birthday lantern complete! I am so excited to have more birthdays in the next few months, to add some great decoration to the classroom...

Time for chapel led by Mr. Debrick! He reminded us that with God, ALL things are possible!

Then...all of a sudden, a surprise visitor appeared...FREDBIRD!!! A student in Mrs. Stanglein's class entered a drawing to win a visit from Fredbird at your school...SHE WON! Fredbird had some fun with us, posed for a picture with every preschool class, then made his way to visit every classroom at Zion today ;o)

Some of you may have heard about "Jingle", she is Mrs. Dose's Christmas puppy. She visited our class yesterday and today. When we made extra good choices, we enjoyed her singing and dancing!

Time for small groups (centers)!

With me, we improved our rhyming skills! Each card had a snowflake on it, each snowflake had a picture on it! Each friend had to find the match to his/her picture. But, the pictures weren't the same! The match was a picture that rhymed with his/her picture! Rhyming is an early literacy skill. Success for some was having me help find the rhyme. Success for others was having a friend help find the match. While, success for some was finding the rhyming match on his/her own!

Since Christmas is now just 13 days away, it was perfect to have a Veggie Tales Christmas dance party! Check out these large motor skill moves!

We found a lot of candy canes! Some tiny, some big, and some in between! Each friends job was to sequence his/her candy canes in order from smallest to biggest, or biggest to smallest! The ability to compare and measure is an early math skill.

With Mrs. Dose we "rolled a Christmas tree"! Each friend was given a picture of a tree with the numbers 1 - 6. Each number had the picture of a different colored ornament or a star next to it. Each friend took a turn rolling the dice, stated or counted the number of dots. He/she found that number on his/her paper, then added that color ornament/star to his/her Christmas tree! Identifying/recognizing numbers and connecting them to their quantity is an early math skill!
