We had another GREAT day in preschool!
A few friends, that were not here yesterday, noticed check-in was a bit different this morning! These friends were given the opportunity to measure "How Many Inches Tall Are You?" (Using and understanding standard forms of measurement is an early math skill).
Then, each friend found that number on our graph and wrote his/her name in the correct box on the graph! I did help them quite a bit this morning. But, as we do more of this type of check-in throughout the year, they will become much more independent!
Amelija improves small motor control and expresses creativity while working with paper, glue, and sparkles!
And...working on the Clifford ABC puzzle once again! They did a great job problem solving and working together.
Aiden improved hand-eye coordination as he created "Claw"!

Creativity at it's best! I did not have paper, scissors, or glue out this morning! These friends asked if they could use scissors! Of course...YES!!! They then problem solved together to find the paper and the glue! Scissors are great for strengthening the finger, wrist, and hand muscles, but are quite often hard to manipulate! Keep some child size scissors at home and encourage your child to cut away!(paper of course ;o)) When using scissors try to remember...thumbs up and on top!!!

Our first fire drill!!!
There was no alarm sounded today, as to not scare our friends. But, Mr. Debrick did walk the hall shouting, "fire drill." We did great with following directions and staying calm as we moved to our safe meeting place. Some friends did have some questions. Wondering if there was a real fire. Or, wanted to see the firetruck. So, your child may have questions or want to talk about it at home. This could be a great way to start at-home chats with your family about how emergency situations work at home. Or, a great opportunity to begin fire/emergency drills at home!
Science Time!!!
Scientist Mudd came to visit again today for our first class science experiment! Science enables children to explore and experiment while developing skills using the scientific method of problem solving: observing, predicting, testing predictions and generalizations.
First we made some observations about dirt and water while I took dictation What does it look like? What does it smell like? What does it feel like?
Then we made some predictions about what will happen when we mix dirt and water...
Time to stir, stir, stir...
So, what did happen??? We all decided that we made MUD!!! We then made observations about the mud that we created!
Time for small groups (centers)!
With me we improved identifying/recognizing numbers and connecting them to counted objects (early math skill). I held up a "baseball" with a number on it. Each friend said the number, then counted out that same number of little hippos. Success for some was working with numbers 1 - 5, while success for others was working with numbers 1 - 10!
We had a great time "reading" to self! Books enable children to develop left to right sequencing.
We used a balance beam to improve large motor control as we stepped over different shapes! As we stepped over each shape, each friend said the shape aloud. Understanding/recognizing shapes is an early math skill!
With Mrs. Dose we practiced finding words that rhyme (early literacy skill)! Each puzzle piece had a word on it. Each piece had one perfect match with a rhyming word on it. If he/she found the rhyming word, a perfect tiny puzzle was made!
We went out a little early for outside time #2, since our first was cut a bit short this morning!
So happy to be running!!!

During Jesus Time today we remembered that even when we make a mistake, just like Adam and Eve did, God will ALWAYS love us and will ALWAYS forgive us!
