 Welcome back to preschool!

One quick reminder...

The last day of school for preschool is Thursday, May 21.

Here we go...

While others enjoyed free choice time...

Each friend began his/her day with a special check-in!  Each child completed his/her "May My Name" for his/her portfolio.  Each friend was given the choice if he/she wanted to write first and last name or just first name. While each friend wrote his/her name I took special note of :

pencil grip
right or left hand
did he/she know the letters in own name

"Hippos in a Hut" visited at the end of morning meeting today!  We started with 5 hippos...

Some got a little sleepy and decided to take a nap in their hut!  Our job was to figure out how many hippos were sleeping by counting how many hippos stayed out to play.  How many are in the hut if 3 are left outside to play??? This is a tough concept to grasp, but we recalled what we had learned when we did this with dinosaurs, so we did a good job today.  As the week goes on, we may add more hippos and continue to improve upon this early math skill!

Most of these little critters are still holding on as larvae...But, we have LADYBUGS!!! Around 9:00 this morning Mrs. Fahey and I noticed 3 adult ladybugs crawling around our ladybug land. Did you know when a ladybug has just emerged it is still quite pale and you can't see it's spots yet?? Spots don't fully appear for about 12 hours!  What do you feed adult ladybugs???  Raisins cut in half and soaked in water for about 5 minutes!!!

We took a little time discussing the four stages of a ladybug again. Stage 4 is the adult ladybug. After some observation, each friend drew stage 4 in his/her lifecycle of a ladybug journal.  We are quite excited that we are getting to see metamorphosis take place from pupa to ladybug in our classroom!

The clouds rolled in, but the rain stayed away!!!

Time for small groups (centers)!

We drew our fourth quarter self portraits! He/she got to look at his/her picture on his/her name tag.  We also remembered there may be more to each of us than just what we can see in the picture...maybe...legs and feet too!  Not only are are we improving writing/drawing skills, we are also learning self awareness!

With Mrs. Fahey, we improved our number recognition, matching, and spatial reasoning skills as we put together a Dr. Seuss number puzzle!

Kinetic sand arrived in the classroom! We LOVED getting to smash, squish, and build with this sand that forms, but also "melts" in your hands!

We enjoyed a Veggie Tales dance party!

And...we may have found a tiny puddle or two while enjoying our outside time before lunch!

During Jesus Time today we began to learn about the day of Pentecost. Four amazing things happened that day, but most of all the Holy Spirit worked in the hearts of the people. The Holy Spirit will help us to share the Good News to others that we are saved because Jesus has taken our sins away!

Enjoy your evening!

Friday, May 1, 2026

We had a great first day of May in preschool!

We worked hard cutting straws and keeping them in the table, one last time this school year!

One last day of lego BINGO...

Elsie was our "caller"...

And, this time a little trickier. You not only had to match the color, you also had to match the shape!

We noticed that a new month, May, started today.  So, our April pie graph had been filled in!  We all decided that yellow (sunny) had the most, and that April and November looked very close to the same (but not quite).

Tricky Mouse was back and he brought squirrels with letters on them.  We did a great job of identifying/recognizing letter names and sounds to find that tricky mouse (each time he hid from us).

We enjoyed listening and following along with our guest reader for today, Kyle's and Charley's grandma!

With another sunny morning, we headed outside to get our bodies moving in the crisp, fresh air!

Extra time outside on this Free Choice Friday!

During Jesus Time today we remembered the story of Jesus ascending into heaven.  A Saddleback Kids video reminded us that Jesus loves us, forgives us, and will always be near us and take care of us!

Have a wonderful weekend!
